Just got back in from our 3 day/3 night cruise to the whitsundays islands, semi glad to be back on dry land but also sorta wishin i had another day or so on there, sailin out to those isalnds was cool.
the boat was called anaconda 3, and slept 30 people, i dont know what i was expecting of it but i really enjoyed it anyway. the water was pretty calm too so i didnt get sea sick once, even on the day it was rough i felt ok cos i went outside onto the deck and sat in the breeze with my ipod on. there we some cool people on there to talk to aswel which helped, good distractions from the sea and fun to hang out with at night time and in the sea. the main people i hung around with besides hannah were these 2 guys from manchester, gary and shaun, they had both finished uni the same time as me and had been travelling for several months so it was cool to swap stories. i also spent alot of time with these two girls from hong kong, sharron and gene, they were both really laid back and freindly and also this lass called sarah from denmark, (she was hot too which was nice).
most of the time on the boat was spent sunbathing, usually from about 8 in the morning after breakfast until the sun went it at about 7 ish at night, then we still sat about on the deck anyway. this was interupted with regular trips to go snorkeling or play on the beach. white haven beach was the beach we went to, and it was out of this world!!, rated the 3rd best beach EVER! really nice white sand and really clear waters. the main snorkel points were coral bay and blue pearl bay i think, both ridiculously cool and technically part of the barrier reef. the fish at the coral would swim around you and not get scared away at all, and there were thousands of them, the highlight tho was seeing a couple of clown fish and a giant maori wrasse called priscilla which was about 2 foot long.( the crew call it priscilla anyway, and there was also trevor the trout but i didnt see him). and a giant clam, literally a metre long, kinda looked like a giant cornish pasty to me.
the main highlight of the cruise for me however was my scuba dive at one of the reefs. possibly the best thing i have ever done! we started at the beach and swam out to explore, going down to about 5 metres deep at one point. we saw some amazing stuff down there that our instructor logan pointed out to us, and the best part was that it was only sharron and me that went so it was 50/50 attention from the instructor so we got to have a much better time. and it was only 65 $!!! well worth it. its hard to put into words how cool it was and what we saw, it was just massive canyons of coral that you could swim through and forests of other corals with massive shoals of fish swimming all around, fantastically bright and colourful.
anyway its time to go check into our hostel for tonight and get some food, no partying tonight cos queensland law wont allow alcohol consumption without it bein with a meal so unless we get some food and dont finsih eating for ages we are having a quiet one in cos most places are shut for good friday.
oh yeah i forgot haha stu you only scuba in a swimming pool, i scuba on a reef hahahahaha
