We have enjoyed a birthday weekend in Broken Hill, also known as the 'Silver City', exploring the sights. We have been here once before but only an overnight stop with the boys, so its been nice to relax and get a feel of the town.
On our way here we had an overnight stop at Cobar by a lake and were joined by another couple, John & Sandy driving a nice F100 ute! We bumped into them again at Silverton and spent part of the day wandering around this unique old mining town 24km north of Broken Hill. This is also the town where they filmed Mad Max 2, Mission Impossible and a few other iconic movies.
Broken Hill is also a major hub for the Royal Flying Doctor Service as it is on the edge of the remote outback, so we were able to do a tour of their base and hangar which was really interesting. Quite a few well-known eclectic artists also call this place home, so we had a look at Pro Hart's gallery and a drive out to the 'Living Desert' to see the sculptures. We also attended the local Baptist Church today and were made very welcome among the small number gathered together for worship - it's great that no matter where you go, we are all family in Christ.
