Translation: “Hello!...where is the beach”?! -My very first attempts at memorising essential phrases in Thai…actually pronouncing these may be another challenge in itself…
10am, Friday 8th July 2011 = destination BANGKOK, Thailand. My first ever adventure to this fascinating part of the world…and really don’t know quite what to expect. From this date until 1st September I will be discovering the cultures, languages, lifestyles and scenery of Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos…After reading, hearing and seeing these countries I’ll finally get to experience it for myself…For now, all I can imagine is humid temperatures, rich food, sun-drenched palm-fringed beaches, cheap living, enriching cultures, amazing wildlife and…undoubtedly…plenty of challenges and surprises along the way. For now, it’s back to this Thai phrases book... Guessing the next time I write will be following a weary 12-hour flight, +7 hours GMT and just a mere 5924 miles from the UK….
So here goes!...
