Puerto is a much smaller, woodsy town than the commercial city of Foz we left behind in Brazil. It felt more relaxed and safer. Unfortunately Jo was on a schedule and wanted to hit Buenos Aires asap, so we only had just over a day here!
Our hotel looked very grand and mainly was... although quite worn around the edges. It had a great pool area but we had no time to enjoy it!
The Argentinian side of the falls was different from the Brazilian... no one proactively trying to sell you extras like the boat rides (it was up to you to approach them), transport links a little newer and more interesting (a mini train instead of a bus) and lot more walkways suspended over water and the falls themselves.
We had a great day and obviously took lots of photos! One of the backpackers we met at the Itaipu Dam was there too and approached us to offer to take a photo for us next to the Diablo fall.
The Argentina side of the falls is so 'different' from the Brazilian side that I would strongly recommend everyone to visit both. Whereas you have great views of the Argentina side from the Brazilian side... on the Argentina side you have many more walkways and feel closer to them and the surrounding nature (except we saw less of the cheeky thieving coati's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coati).
After lots of walking around we left the park late and waited for the bus. It was here I noticed a couple behind us in the queue. They were definitely travellers and possibly British... well, we got on the bus and sat at the back. The guys behind us the in queue sat directly in front of us and the chap turned straight around and said "So what did you think of the falls today?"... and there we met Geoff and Lexa! Well, we had a good chat on the bus and got on really well, so when Geoff suggested a drink later we couldn't refuse (and it was pretty good red wine!). Hello guys, hope you are enjoying the rest of your travels! and we hope to see you after you finish your epic 15 month round the world adventure in November!
We caught a cheap flight from Puerto to Buenos Aires. Interesting experience at the airport in Iguacu. We had checked in and made it through to the departure lounge where I heard an announcement in Spanish containing words that sounded like "Watson, Alex". Jo heard it too. So I presented myself to security... a smiling chap came up to escort me downstairs saying there was a problem with the Police and my baggage!
Before I had a chance to tell Jo where I was going (a mistake I thought about as I was being guided away from departures!) I was led through a number of checkpoints and at each one my guide told the officer that I was "Watson, Alex". So nice when your name precedes you... but this isn´t exactly how I want to be known in a foreign land!
Outside the terminal I met a few Policemen who wanted me to open my bag... their dog had sniffed something out! After struggling with opening the bag, one of the officers pulled out my bag of white powder... washing powder. The officer had a sniff... his mate had a sniff... the dog had a sniff (and wagged his tail)... smiles from all... then I was let go!
Jo had no idea what was going on and I had to wait patiently in line to pass through security yet again! The plane was boarded by the time I got through. Jo was just starting to panic! Must say the authorities dealt with me very well and were courteous and friendly so I never felt too scared .
