Arrived at Cordoba bus station at 7am. We stopped for a quick coffee and medialunas (croissants) in the station before finding somewhere to stay. There were tunes, some great some cheesey, playing in the cafe including a few from Guns n Roses. Not sure how the conversation turned, but we were trying to figure out the name of the guitarist from GnR and the only way I could think to describe it to Jo was by saying it was the bloke in the "private" video with Pamela Anderson... not that either of us has seen it!
Cordoba centre was great... pretty compact. We started the tourist stuff at 9am just when the jesuit crypt opened. A tour from a lovely lady (who spoke superb English) cost us the princely sum of 1 peso each (and there's more than 6 to the pound). The crypt was effectively forgotten about for years whilst a road was built above it, then it was excavated recently and lovingly restored. I'll try to upload some photos but yet again I'm having trouble...
We spent our first night in Cordoba in a hostel in the centre. Most places were booked up and we're still not sure why... nor was the very helpful man in one hotel who rang around at least 10 others trying to find a room for us. Hostel was ok, but no locks on private room doors didn't endear it to me. We left the next day and moved to a hotel (got a good deal too).
I really enjoyed Cordoba. A very young city with 7 universities so it is absolutely full of people aged between 17 and 25ish (yeah, I know I'm a little older, but still young at heart!). Lots of places to eat and drink and some great architecture.
You will have seen the photo of me on the horse... well that was day 3 in Cordoba... we had a horse trek. Somehow Jo got a cool looking, speedy horse called Flash or something similar... I got the white one with brown spots... Jo proceeded to call her Bessie as she reminded Jo of a Fresian cow! In defence of Bessie, she was a good horse and gave me no trouble... apart from lurking at the back of group and stopping for a drink when everyone else kept going!
Jo also decided that Bessie & I reminded her of Steptoe and Son... so she has decided to sing the theme-tune at every opportunity!
Bariloche in the Lake District of northern Patagonia is next. Down south and time to get out the fleece, jacket and maybe thermals too! It´s going to be cold and we are definitely going skiing!
