Listening to Scottish reggae on a beach drinking beer with 3 people I met today where no one else goes. I was starting to think I had forgotten to travel like I did in Scotland the other year. I like this. (the beer is a bit bland for me but it does the job).
I went out to volunteer some English in the library today. I talked to a monk for an hour but he was so good at English that it almost felt like a waste. The only thin I taught him was cheetah. But I got a better idea of how the no monasteries actually work. They're a lot less authentic than I imagined... I asked about the routine and they had the basic rules that you would expect like no possessions, can't sleep on a proper bed, can't touch women. They aren't allowed to play sports. That shocked me so I asked how they stay trim (apart from they have coffee instead of tea and they live off food gifts they collect from the locals at sunrise. (The curfew here is 11.30 and morning kicks off at 6am with music, bikes and all!!!). Just as we left a Swedish English teacher they knew came in and get were talking about ringing each other when he whips out his iPhone!!! We were in shock. Plenty going on in Laung Probang. I could stay here a while.

• Chilled and loving Laos!
Food: Had baguette and eggs for brekki with ketchup and butter which was counted as a side, followed by some really nice mango and tangerine and boring old dragon fruit. Just as bland as in England. Oh and the coffee was gorgeous, thanks to the French heritage of Laos and Laung Probang. I got a shake on the way back from breakfast and it was gorgeous. (But it was just milk, ice and flavouring, it came with a handle so I could hold it like a shopping bag as I walked!)
Oh and I had pad chai earlier. It was grand.
