Got off the ferry in Koh Chang - Amazing Place. It was like arrivng in Jurasic Park without the dinosaurs....obviously. A small island covered in jungle it really was breathtaking. We piled into a share taxi, they got 12 of us in and set off down the west coast of the island dropping people off as we went. We saw a local driving his scooter and there was a monkey riding the handle bars! It was fantastic to see. We were stopping in Bang Bao right at the bottom of the island on the tip. When we got there it was a small fishing village with a pier a temple and nothing much else, really secluded and peacefull.
We walked down a dirt track to where we were stopping at Cliff Cottages, took around 10 mins and in the blistering heat and the sun hitting us hard it was a long 10 mins walk with the heavy backpacks. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner who was a bloke from Stockport (random) he was living there with his Thai wife and there little boy. We picked our hut on the cliff edge with an amazing view. It looked out onto the sea and the sun set was directly in front.
We went down to the bar and had some drinks, found they were poker players so quickly started up a game and Alex got his gamble on. We played for just 20 baht but lost anyway. We had a few beers later and headed off to bed.
The next day we headed off on foot to find the beach, we went in what we thought was the right direction (after bieng told the night before and it was ment to be 15min walk) for about 40mins in the scorching hot sun. Rachel nearly passed out as we hadn't eaten anything yet so we flagged a taxi down to take us back to the village to eat first before trying to find it again.
We decided to chill for a bit back at the bar of our hostel and I chilled out in the hamock. We then set off in the right direction to find the beach again. We found it and it was bliss. It was like a postcard picture. Palm trees, white sands and a bright blue sea. We hit the sea and the water was really warm unlike any sea Alex had been in.
I then led on the lounger in the shade for a while and suddenly a coconut landed at arms reach away from me! It had fallen from around 30 foot up. I s*** it and so did Rachel. I learned very quickly to check where we led when there are palm tree's about!
We headed back around 5pm as it goes dark at 6. We took a look down the pier and decided to get some food from one of the restaurants. I had some huge Tiger Prawns and rachel tucked into some shrimps in red curry paste. The food was the best we had had in Thailand and pretty much the best ever. All for around 16 quid, expencive for Thailand but it was well worth it.
Rachel introduced me to Sang Sam (Thai Rum) and its gorgeous. Its lethal tho because its strong, morish and addictive. We stayed up drinking that for a while then staggered off to bed.
Over the next few days it rained so we didnt do much, just relaxed and drunk beer, we realised we were becoming alcoholics. I bought a rod and did spot of fishing catching a couple of tiddlers. We attended a local festival in Bang Bao where a 'lady boy' from the hostel was singing and we went too watch. It was all in Thai so no idea what any of the songs were and they all sounded the same.
On one of the last nights it was Ging's (the owners wife) birthday. We decorated the bar with boloons with a few other guests and prpared for a party. It was free food and free beer for the night! BONUS! There were loads of other travellers there and we all got pissed up and played party games, with the looser doing a 'Mask' - Thats a modified snorkle mask and you pore beer down the tube and down it in one. As you can guess it got pretty rowdy and everyone got wasted. Really fun night.
We also went swimming in a nearby river with the owner, his wife, son and a couple we met from the Nertherlands. It was great, freash water and a tree swing.
Then we planned our next move - Cambodia...........
