Hanoi
We expected the capital to be even busier and more hectic than Saigon, but to our surprise it was a little bit quieter and smaller. There was still a hell of a lot of traffic but the central lake and large city squares made a lot of difference.
Even though it was a lot easier to walk round the city, it was too humid so we hailed a beechuk to take us. We visited Ho Chi Minh grave, history museum, war museum, presidential palace and parks.
In the evening we hit the enormous street markets and food stalls, again trying to avoid dog/cat/frog currys etc....
That evening we watched the famous Vietnamese Water Puppets which was a strange affair. Puppets on sticks dance around in a small lake of water trying to catch frogs or fish and then running away from dragons and unicorns to the live orchestra music. The show we saw was famous in Hanoi and told the everyday life of the Vietnamese people.
