So getting to Ella was a chore. We woke up with a hangover from last nights extended "happy hour" fun. Neither of us had great tummies either and we only had some biscuits for breakfast - BAD IDEA. We got the bus from Pottuvil to Monaragala. Then from there to Wallawaya, and from there to Ella. On one trip one of the two of us felt awful - at least not at the same time, so one could comfort the other! Nausea, stomach pain, headaches were the order of the day.
Anyway we reached beautiful Ella at around 1pm. Emily felt so bad she had to have a nap in our guesthouse - Mount Beauty Tourist Inn and we were both in bed by 8.30pm after a nice dinner of rice and curry at the guesthouse.
The next day after an 11 hour sleep we were both feeling miles better. Our guesthouse is set in the hill in pretty gardens where the 80 year old owner grows his own coffee. Our room is very large with old wooden cabinets but a slight smell of damp. On the plus side it is breezy and cooler here, so we got a great - non sweaty - nights sleep.
We ate breakfast at the curd and honey shop in the village - Emily had toast and I had curds and honey with fruit (actually a kind of buffalo milk yoghurt - very nice) and a teapot ful of nice coffee. :-) We then had a lovely walk through tea plantations to Little Adams Peak - where there are spectacular views of Ella rock, the beautiful green steeply sloping hills and the plains below.
On the way down we stopped for a drink at a posh resort owned by the tea plantation with thatched, very posh cottages. We checked out the train station for our train journey tomorrow before having a delicious lunch of Kotthy Rotti - chopped up bits of Rotti stir fried with veg and egg served with spicy sauce.
In the afternoon we went to nearby Rawana falls on the bus. The series if waterfalls over rocks were nice and we scrambled up to the top cascade where there was a nice spot for swimming and standing under the ice cool fresh water.
Tonight we have eaten and used the wifi at Nescoffee - a cool traveller type bar and restaurant. We ate delicious lamprais - 10 different types of curry (potato/pineapple/chicken/veg/egg was what I could identify) and rice wrapped in a banana leaf and cooled slowly. Mmmm

Dad in Aussie For travellers with occasional tummy gyp you eat amazingly well - must be the diet of curry/beer/arrak!
