Interlaken, Switzerland is probably the most beautiful place I've ever seen. Usually I am a beach and sand person, but this small adventure seeking ski town is one of a kind. The town of Interlaken is in a valley surrounded by snow cap mountains. Even though there's snow on top of the mountains, the flowers and landscaping in the town are so bright and lush, the contrast is so unique. Honestly, the pictures don't even do it justice. It's amazing. The town is so tiny, but full of more ski, chocolate and fondue shops than a big city.
When we arrived two days ago, it was freezing! It had just snowed and the clouds were low around the mountains. We were in shock, especially after Barcelona heat. I put on just about every layer in my backpack, I'm so glad I didn't take out my wool socks! We walked around the small town and found our hostel. Our hostel was really nice! The view from our window deck was breathtaking, facing the mountains. It was full of adrenaline junkies going sky diving or total nature buffs ready to go on ten hour hikes. Then there was us...
Yesterday, was one of a kind. We also got a full eleven hours of sleep!
It was so nice and so needed. We woke up and the sun was shining and it was in the high 60s. It was perfect for walking around, sitting outside and going up a mountain. We went to the top of one of the mountains surrounding the valley at Harder Klum. It was so gorgeous being in the Alps. I felt like I was on top of the World. When we came back down from being 2,400 feet up, we grabbed a Swiss chocolate ice cream. It's nice being in all these countries during Easter the pastries and chocolates were all so yummy! We got some snacks and sat in the park for hours watching the hang and para gliders come in- don't worry, mom! I didn't do it!
I will miss Switzerland and the small town of Interlaken, but we are now on our way to the last of 40 train rides to and from 21 cities to 12 countries before flying back to Cork on Wednesday.
Love,
Al
