Hello there everyone!!!!
We hope you've all had a good Easter and are enjoying your break from work?
We've been busy since we last updated the blog. We left Niagara Falls and went up to Toronto and from there went to Chicago where we are now. We've certainly racked up some miles and time on the tracks!
We had a really good time in Toronto despite the snow following us about. The first night we were there we had a nice walk around the city to get our bearings and ended up in a bar literally 10 yards from our hotel. We got well drunk (I blame Jules!!!). We hadn't had much food that day so that didn't help much. It was a really crazy local bar. Lots different people arguing about who was the most Irish to the owner, Andrew, who was Slovenian. All good fun! We met a few Chelsea fans that night too and Jules gave the Toronto wine a big thumbs up....
The following day we were up the CN Tower nice and early. It has highest observation deck in the world and you get some great views of the city. We had to share them with about 50 Mexicans who kids were more hyper than Bonehead on a skittles overdose!!!!! It was a great experience but so was the peace and quiet afterwards!!!
It was soon time to get back on the train and off to Chicago. Not before a 'schoolboy error' on my part though. We had to be up at 6am to catch the train so I set my alarm as normal on my phone. We got up as planned as were soon ready. It wasn't until I went to put my watch on that I realised I had set the alarm for 6am England time as my phone is still on that time. It was actually 2am in Toronto. I thought I was due a good kick in the nuts for that (I think Jules is holding on to it until I'm least expecting it!) but I escaped it then and we went back to bed until we needed to get up properly.
Our journey from Toronto was a long one and included a 10 hour layover in Buffalo. In that time I some how managed to convince Julie that Rambo was the best film to watch at the Cinema.
Soon enough we were back on the train, 2 hours later than planned at 2 am. We got settled for the long journey ahead (10/11 hours) and it dawned on us we were sat amongst a family that could have been in the Nutty Professor. They were so like the Klumps. 'Go Sherman...!'.
Eventually we got to Chicago and the snow was like something we've never seen before. It was unbelievable. We had about 7-8 inches in about 40 mins. It was crazy....and bloody cold too.
Our first full day in Chicago was magnificent. In the morning it was SOOOOOOOOOOOO cold. I felt for Julie as her boots soaked up the melting snow like a sponge and her poor feet were freezing. Luckily it soon melted once the sun had a good go at it and we carried on looking around the city. We went to get some tickets for shows like Jerry Springer and Steve but unfortunately they wont be filming because of Easter so we'll miss out there.
In the afternoon we ate at the bottom of the Hancock Centre (Miss Hancock you have your own tower we'll tag you in the photos on facebook so many signs saying 'all in all a good time') in a place called the 'Cheesecake Factory'. It was really nice food and the cheesecakes were massive. Certainly filled the gap for a bit.
Following that we went up to the observation deck to get a great look at Chicago. You can see from the photos how good the views are up there.
All around the city were signs at the bottom of buildings saying 'Beware of falling Ice!'. We'd never given it a thought but once it has snowed and begins to melt it has to go somewhere. You could look up at the buildings and see the lumps of ice falling off and follow them all the way to the ground. You wouldn't want a lump falling on your head, that's for sure!
Before we headed home we had a walk to Navy Pier where you can get some really good views of the skyline. We also saw a beach with snow on which was a little odd.
Please have a look at the new photos we've put up. We hope you like.
Thanks for all the messages we've had since our last update. It will be nice to get some more through. No need to let me know that Chelsea beat Arsenal as I was able to listen to that on the internet in the lobby of the hotel. I think a few of the other guests think I'm a bit odd for waving my arms about cheering, but I can live with that!
Julie would love a quick update on the soaps. A guy in Toronto shard with us that they get Corrie over there but are a year and a half behind. Julie didn't ruin it for them though. (I would have!!!).
Our next place is Louisville, Kentucky. We're leaving for there on Tuesday so we'll update you from there I'm sure.
Take care everyone.
Hugs and manly handshakes.
Alan & Jules
