We arrived in Sydney on Wednesaday 22nd July after a ten hour bus journey from Coffs Harbour. The journey was actually fine as we stopped a few times. We arrived at about midnight and walked about ten minutes to our hostel using the handy map I had drawn the day before. It turned out our hostel was mainly a pub with loads of dorm rooms above and no reception. We had to get the bouncer of the pub to wake someone up to let us in. We finaly got into our room, and got straight to bed, trying not to disturb the sleeping people already there.
The nxt day we got up early to look around the city. The hostel was quiet nice, everything was new and clean. It didn't have much personality though. Also I thought they had a bit of a cheek claiming to have self catering facilities when also they had was a toaster and a kettle.
Anyway we headed out into the city and walked around all day. We walked through the botanical gardens which were massive and really nice. There were loads of massive bats up in the trees which was a bit freaky. After a bit we spotted the Opera House so we walked along to it around the harbour. The we walked across the Harbour Bridge taking in the views of the city. At the other side we came across an old fashioned theme park called the Luna Park. After aquick look round we decided to come back the following night. We were pretty tired by this point after having walked around for about 5 hours so we got the train back to Sydney Central and walked back to the hostel.
We ate in the pub as they had a deal on where you could get a meal for $6 (about 3 pounds). It was pretty good to be fair. After that it was getting pretty late so we got an early night.
We got up early again the next day and after a massive bowl of Coc Pops we felt prepared to face the day. We walked down to Darling Harbour which was near our hostel. There are a lot of nice museums, fountain and park areas round there so it was quite nice. We also saw so aboriginal buskers playing digereedoo to a tape recording of rubbish techno music. It was awful. We had a quick look in the tourist office and decided to go to the nearby martitime museum, because it was free.
I expected it to be a bit rubbish to be honest but it was actually pretty interesting. We spent an hour of so looking round there before moving on. After that we walked down to the rocks area of Sydney, which it were the colonists first landed in Australia. We had a quick Subway for lunch and sat outside to eat it as it was a sunny day. We saw a seagull grad a sandwich out of a woman's hand when she was just about to eat it. It was amusing. After lunch we headed to a small museum about the history of Australia, which was also quite good.
We walked back to our hostel after that, back through the botanical gardens. We had a quick bite to eat before heading out to the amusement park. They had a Friday night special on, and we got there about 6ish. It was fun, we went on lots of rides. It was quite busy though, with loads of teenager around being lairy.
We went on quite a lot of things that span us round and upside down and made up feel sick, so we had to go on the ferris wheel to calm down a bit. It was nice all lit up at night and had good views of the harbour bridge. We also had candyfloss. We got the train back and headed to bed.
The next day we had to check out early to get the train to the Blue Mountains. We couldn't find anyone around in the hostel office or in the bar to check us out and give us our desposit back which was anoying but eventually we found someone, and we made the train in time.
