Well, this was, without a doubt, the best day of our trip!!!
It started out a little crazy as we disembarked from our ship, caught a taxi to our hotel near the Amsterdam airport, then figured out the train schedule (thanks to help from Esther!) and took two trains to make our way to Esther's home town of Sittard.
When we arrived, Esther was there to greet us (it was so good to see her - she looks FABULOUS!!) and take us to her lovely home. After a brief tour, she took us to lumch in this delightful restaurant - a barn converted from worn-down to glamorous-goodness. Mmn.
Then Esther gave us a guided tour of her town - what a charming place! We got to see where she works, where she plays, where family members live. Mathijs' school is close to her home and looks really really nice.
When we returned to her place, she cooked a nummy dinner and we chatted happily until it was time to return to our hotel in Amsterdam (boo). We juggled the trains again, made it to our hotel, and flopped into bed near midnight.
A busy day - but definitely the highlight of our trip!!!
We cannot close out our trip without, once again, mentioning our thanks to the McDonald's owner/operators of the Pacific Northwest. Without their love and support - and generosity!! - this trip would not have been possible. They've given us memories - new memores to go with the beautiful ones they've already shared with us - that will last a lifetime. We are so very grateful to them all.
