I'll skip over Alex's typical booking-the-wrong-flight-subsequently-missing-it-as-it-left-2-hours-before-the-one-i-asked-him-to-book escapade (!)...Warsaw is again a very large city - 2 nights didn't do it justice. As with the rest of Poland seemingly, the Old Town is the heart of the city and the main tourist area. However it is difficult to call this an 'old town' - 95% of Warsaw was destroyed in 1944, with the few remaining buildings being well on the outskirts of the city. Using 18th century paintings the city, in particular the Old Town has been restored with a fantastic level of accuracy, right down to reusing cobbles where possible for paving. I had to remind myself constantly that no building in the city was more than 50 years old!The Jewish quater is home to the Warsaw Uprising museum, a brilliant insight into the little-known liberation of the city, which lasted for approximately 3 months during which Warsaw essentially established itself as a new state, with everything from a new postal service to a legislature running. Once again great nightlife, and another place that makes a killer mojito for only zl5, about GBP1! Needless a few of those were consumed and a fantastic night was enjoyed by both of us...which ended up with us dancing on the bar. Lets just say a pole was involved...but I'll let you explore the youtube link for Alex's dazzling performance for that one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2Pfn6LYLtE
