I know i have neglected this for a while but i'm promising myself i'll keep it up to date from now on (internet in Vietnam so slow)!!
When i wrote last we were in Hoi An! You will be glad to know that i got sorted with two dresses and they are currently god knows where as we took the cheap option and sent them home by seamail which takes up to 4 months!! Remember i was holding out for some sunshine in the beautiful beach resort.....well it was raining the morning we arrived. We were none to pleased but decided to make the most of the weather and head for a mud bath! It was hilarious, the 3 of us in a bath full of hot mud. I'll take full responsability for this one - i decided i needed a bit of pampering after the rain but the lads loved it. We got treated to a hot mineral pool bath after the mud. Was heaven even the rain couldnt wipe the smile of our faces. we shared the mineal pool with aussie and english lads, one of them sumed it up by lying back and asking us what we would be doing if we were at home right now! We realised how lucky we were and never moaned about the rain once after that! We felt so good that we were ready for a few drinks, we met a few of the people who we met that day for a few drinks and the craic was good!
We decided that we would move swiftly on though and managed to get a bus the day after to Mui Ne (another gorgeous beach resort where rain wasnt mentioned)! Oh but it rained! We spent the first evening on the beach in the rain (at this point not caring), watching surfers do their thing or not. we had a great laugh at the one man who looked the real deal, proper surf gear and the works but for the hour or so that we watched him he only managed to run in knee deep! We concurred he was only there to entertain us! haha We decided that Saigon was our next move. We booked the bus the next day for the afternoon so that we had time to fit in a tour to the sand dunes in the morning! We done it in style - in a vietnam wary type jeep. Was a good laugh and we made the 30km journey without too much hassle. Te sand dunes where huge - and we took full advantage of it. We hired boards to go dune surfing. Stephen came off his borad so quick the first time that i thought me and gary were going to wet ourselves laughing. We all had a go though - moving on to the bigger and better ones with the help of two wee local boys. Poor gary hit his head so hard one time he had to stop and be sick. The photos say it all! Back in the jeep and we were ready for the bus journey to Saigon. We were fully prepared for our 3 hour bus journey........needless to say 8 hours later we arrived in the southern capital!!
Saigon is an amazing city! And as much as we said about the traffic in Hanoi...Saigon is a step above it! Theres 10million people in Ho Chi Minh and 5 million motorbikes! It never stops. We stepped off our bus and were looking for a hotel when a rat just run right out infront of me, ON THE FOOTPATH! We met up with irish girls we knew from up the coast and they were telling us that they were eating their dinner when a rat run under the table...the waiter laughed and said it was a Vietnamese baby kangaroo! Despite this though the city is Buzzing! Its mad and we decided we'd join in the craziness of it and get a motorbike to the war museum! Was good craic, the moto taxi men were like wee tour guides, only cheaper!! The war museum just is a display of artifacts and photos that make you so anti-american (it used to be called the anit-american museum)! The weirdest thing we seen though was the preserved embryos of people affected by the chemicals the americans used to fight the vietnamese. Stephen was in his element throughout. Thought we were never going to get him out of the place! We walked to the palace, took a stroll round the grounds then headed for the hotel.
The next day we done the Chu Chi Tunnels, one of the most interesting things we have done to date. Our tour guide was amazing, he fought in the war and was able to tell us loads of info! Sephen got talking to him one on one and he told a few stories of his war days....but mostly how he hates americans!! It was the theme for the day. Anyhow we got to go down the tunnels, me bending over while walking 50feet and that was uncomfortable. Stephen and gary had to go on their hunkers. The photos will show you what it was like. A good day had by all!
That was us finished in Vietnam - neary three weeks and we had made it down the coast. It is a great country where the people are friendly and the scenery was unreal! Some of the sights we seen were not for the faint hearted but the laughs we had balanced the whole lot out.........Roll on Cambodia
