Again i have neglected all those who want to keep up to date with my travels!
I can't believe its over a month since i have last worte! A lot has changed from Phi Phi. We made our way to Kuala Lumpur for a night and then to Singapore for a few days before arriving in Sydney Christmas eve.
It took 22 hours to get from Koh Phi Phi to KL but we done it and we even survived a dodgy stop over 7 hopurs from KL at a rat infested bus station (no food consumed though we were too scared to move)! Kuala Lumpur was fast paced and western but still a cool city to be in. We seen the famous twin towers and we went to the top of the 3rd highest communications tower in the world and got great views of the city! The next day we had a short (7hour) bus trip to Singapore. It was a gorgeous city. It was so clean, something we werent that used to after 7 weeks between Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam! We passed a few days here, seeing the sights. We visited the formula one race track, Sentosa Island, a night Safari and we even seen the Harbour (uncle Peter warned me not to miss the biggest Harbour in the world)!
Anyways here we were in the Airport the day beofre Christmas eve and not a present or a card had we bought. It was so strange seeing Christmas decorations as it felt nothing like Christmas. It all changed when mickey and minnie mouse made an apperance at Singapore airport - I was delighted, my face in the photo should say it all. There we were the three of us in a queue with a load of families dying to get a photo with Mickey! The mortified look on Stephens and Gary face in the Queue was enough to brighten up my Christmas. ha-ha
We arrived at 9 on Christmas eve morning into Sydney. We were too excited to sleep though. We met Kevin and Paddy at the apartment and walked around the city for a while. It's very different from home at Christmas but we loved it. That night we made an appearance in scruffy murphys, the messiest bar in Sydney!!Christmas morning was a weird one, we went to mass in the Cathedral in Hyde Park, the only christmassy thing about our christmas day! We spoke to pur ones on skype and got to see all the McAlindens in after mass on Christmas eve at home then we got to see Clare Sands delight at it only being a few hours until she could play her Nintendo DS. Kevins sister Finnoula brought us over presents from home (Anne and Anna wouldnt miss) and it was lovely having something to open Christmas morn. The Christmas dinner we booked ourselves in for left a lot to be dessired for. It was up there in the worst three feeds we have ate since we left home! We sat through it anyway all smiles in the blistering heat with our santa hats! The craic was good and we all had a good day!
Boxing day though was brilliant! We went to the races at Royal Randwick and had a ball, mainly because me and stephen were winning all round us. The next few days we spent seeing Sydney. We visited the opera house which was stunning and a lot bigger than i imagined, the Harbour Bridge, Darling Harbour, Sydney wildlife park and the aquarium.
New Years Eve was a night i will never forget. We had our spot down beside the bridge from 4 O'Clock in the afternoon. We had great vews of the Bridge and the opera house. We stood in awe at the warm up fireworks at 9 and wondered how they could get much better at 12....but they did! It was just like every thing you ever seen on TV but so much better. The crowd were amazed and the foreworks went on for ages. Well worth the 8 hour wait.
