We arrived here today at the rainforest retreat..pretty cool nestled in the snow capped mountains but green all around you. Snuck into one bed again and got picked up for our skydive. 5 of us did it. Voted #2 most scenic jump in the world. They drove us to the airspace...I was surprisingly calm and excited mart stu and another went first was so weird watching them they were soooo high up! They came down and the first thing I saw was mart and stu having a massive bromance hug ha. My turn.
The plane journey is worth the money alone higher and higher strapped to your instructor. The other 2 in my plane jumped from 12,000ft the air was so cold at this height they jumped and the door closed with just me left. That was the worst part I still had another 4,000ft to go up...over mount cook. They put the oxygen masks on for the rest of the journey and I suddenly feel a little nervous. They'd briefed us on the position for the jump ...before I know it were at the edge I was ok until he realised I didn't have my arms crossed I then looked down...oh s*** and we jump...flipped upside down. Free falling is so loud so fast and awesome u fall so quick it's insane. Spinning from the sea and beach turning to see snowy mountains and then glaziers. Lots of photos and showing bucket list on my hands he pulls the shoot (my ears popped it hurt) you go shooting up and all of a sudden it's so quiet so peaceful and still. It's really quite nice... Your aware of how High you are yet it doesn't seem to matter. He let me take control of the parachute turning left to see the sun setting and right again to the mountains. Truly breathtaking. And before I know it we're coming in to land and mange to standing up. Lots of high fives later and were all buzzing. Single most insane/best experience of my life!!!
Me and stu aka bear grylls couldn't rest when we got back So went on a hike down a river to see the sunset. We all then met in the monsoon bar which had huge open fires for some drinks. Incredible day.....Franz josef is epic.
Woke nice and early and got to our pick up point...ice gear on and a bag with our crampons in was attached...walked over to the helicopter pad...groups of 6 we got in and set off to the glacier. Amazing...helicopter was awesome and we landed on the ice. Then it was crampons and gloves on to set off on our adventure. Had a group photo first was crazzzzyyy. I felt like I had to jump up each step. The front of the group made steps with ice axes and we climbed higher and higher. The views of the glazier and mountains blue ice I can't even put Ibto words. Got abit tricky in some points but was so much fun. Having to dig into the aides of the wall as a freezing cold steam was below you or having to climb up and ice wall with ropes..even going through ice crevasses that were so small I'm glad ice lost some weight. Eventually went through some blue ice tunnels which made for good photos and started our decent. Helicopter ride back and it made for another epic day!!! Sat in the sun in a bar and hot pool tonight before we head back to the open fire bar. Franz josef is something quite special!!
