Me and Shanghai made friends the following day. It's still impossible to navigate your way around. The map only has main road on it so once you deviate from those your pretty much on your own..and no point asking anyone!
We decided we wanted to stay in bed for a whole day and watch films (haven't actually had a day doing nothing since the beginning) so that's exactly what we did!
It was easy too in that room..never realised not having a window made my body never has a clue what time it is.
Got bored of doing nothing on the night though so got dressed and headed out. FINALLY managed to find the bund. Third time lucky!
The skyline is actually really impressive and I know we've seen a lot now but really liked this one. When you turn around and face the bund can't help but remind us of the streets of London lit up.
Now Shanghai has a lack of bars and I'd read about the famous jazz club in the old peace hotel so we checked that out.
Shanghai is certainly a rich mans city but I love jazz music so we had a few drinks in there dancing away to the music. Everyone in the band is over 70 - their quite famous!
Was out until 23:30! What a late night.
Last day in Shanghai we thought we better actually find some stuff as we've been so unsuccessful with it.
Headed to the old town section and what a delight!
It's what I always envisioned china to be like based around a lake with hundreds of coy carp in the buildings we're amazing full of little alley ways with shops and tea houses. We spent quite a while around there before walking back down the bund.
Treated ourself to Pizza Hut - I know that doesn't sound like a treat but there's only so many noodles one can take. Been eating quite bad here as it's difficult to order food if you don't speak Chinese but we've vowed to try harder when we reach xian.
We've established the route to the train station for tomorrow's journey via subway. Then a 20 hour overnight train to xi'an home of the Terracotta Army! See what that has to offer.
