So like I said, the hostel ' tropic days' was lovely, really green and very cute, swimming pool area, private rooms, pool tables, outdoor comminal area, kitchen to make ur food in..we just thought heaven,, until we met the people that stayed there. At a guess we said they were German or maybe Russian but whoever they were they were the most rudest, arrogant people and they clearly didn't want our company. Also only we would pick a hostel that has a quiet after 10pm rule, so we had a good idea that this wasnt going to be our kind of place.
So karys and I feeling awkward b*****ed off to town to look around, we had heard about this lagoon place on the espenard so thought we would check it out and get some dinner to. We was trying our best to stay awake till bedtime. At 8am we threw the towel in and well the next 12 hours were history. We checked out the lagoon and wow. If only there was places in London like this. Free lagoon swimming pool, with beautiful views of the hills, beach and helicopter pad, with free bbq hire, grass picnic areas, man made sandy beach, free wifi. I instantly fell in love with this place, not with cairns but just the lagoon. This was going to be a hot spot for us whilst in Cairns. The sea in cairns is a no-go because of the crocodiles and jelly fish. I was a bit disappointed that there was no beach or sea paddling, but being from London I didn't automatically click that infact the sea around oz is full of weird and wonderful beings. Every kind of restaurant you could think of was on the esplanade but being on a budget, we decided to take our first trip to coles for a food shop. Wolworths and coles are the ozzie equivalent to asda or tescos. Fruit, noodles, cupper soups and protein bars were purchased including a meat bbq pack that we was going to indulge in that night at tropic days. Because of how akward we felt we had changed our stay at the hostel from 3 to 2 nights. We couldn't wait to get out of there and meet some normal people. The private room with TV, fridge and wifi was great, it was purely the people we hated. During dinner was found our self's to have a visitor. Thomas the cat helped us finish off our burgers and sausages, the workers were shocked to see a cat, and the other guests. I'm guessing Thomas had sensed two crazy cat lady's were in town & came to find us. It made me think of jojo binks and how I bet the little b***** isn't missing me at all but instead laying all over my bed. Peter Riley a university professor from Japan started speaking to us about his travels and life. Originally from London, he has visited many places. Peter told us about the book he was writing about his life and it should be ready in about 5 years. The life of Riley will be purchased from amazon as soon as it's out on sale. He also told us how he had been ignored and secluded by the other travellers, because of his mop of white hair, and his age. I selfishly felt relieved that it wasn't just us that had been outcasted the last few days by the other travellers. It was at this point was excited to check out the new hostel tomorrow. 10 thousand miles away and 2 new friends. Thomas the cat and Peter Riley.
