Road trip down to my favourite NZ spot thus far. Lake Ohau, where there is a mean ski feild, only one 2man chair but still, you can go for a hike about 200m and get some seriously cool lines, open faces, shoots the whole shabang.
Except althought on this occasion i opted to get super friendly with , not the powder pockets located everywhere, not the nice soft slush that might get me a little damp but the peisted sheet ice which according to my leg was most certainly bullet proof.
Ach Newzeland health care, so NZ has this system where by its sorta free and sorta isnt. Its nothing like the UK where you rock up get fixed and walk out. if your lucky you get some help with the time of work and stuff. In NZ they are ALL FOR time off work. ACC is a body which pay you not to go to work 80% of your wadges to sit on your back side. However the catch being , if like me you cannot preform your job ... because of the injury but could however preform another job within the company then you have to do it or they will nto pay your wadges.
Imagine puttinga ski instucter behind a desk in admin... it would cost the company more to entertain the poor person and keep them focused on the task.
Not only did i experience that but .. imagine a small ski area, that takes atleast an hour of the main road, by "main" i mean a road that isnt offroad.they have 1 chairlift, no beginner area, 2 liftys and a shed, this shed is the sales office, the cafe, the med room and then frankily whatever you need it for. it was an experience and im kinda glad i damaged my leg not my head their. Character building they say..right?
Anyhow, the outcome is a trip home a month earlier than expected. Which sorta sucks because it would have been nice to see the season to an end but in all honestly its bsically their anyway, snow is turning to slush and people are leaving left right and centre so all in all its okay timing. It was never going to be good was it. . . .
Will be nice to get some time at home before heading back to Les Houches, France for the next winter season. Ah joy ill be going from my favourite season - spring - leap frogging the summer and landing straight into autumm. Ah , the life of back to backs. Might just get used to the idea yet....
