Shock horror... Another early start we needed to pack all of our things and be ready for our bus to Copacabana by 7:30.
With a slight snooze of the alarm we had to rush around and were constantly reminded by our friend that we didn't have much time. Despite a slight worry we made it down and ready all to be told the bus is always late.
Thirty minutes later we were picked up and on our bus leaving La Paz again, but this time for good.
Having to depart the bus for a smaller boat to go across a river, showed a glimpse of how beautiful the island of the sun could be.
With views of Lake Titicaca on the way it gave a true perspective of how big the lake is. We kept referring to it looking more like a sea than a lake. One winding road later and we had arrived in Copacabana, immediately booking a bus ticket to Arequipa to save stress later.
Feeling very organised, we got a boat to the South side of the island and with a game of hangman or three on the way. It was like heaven, just with more steps. The stairway awaiting us had over two hundred steps and with all of our luggage the challenge ahead wasn't desirable, but we did have a small child as a guide and motivator encouraging us to the top.
At the top of the stairs, we given a choice of even more steps or having our bags carried by a donkey to a local hostel we were told was nice. Abigail quickly checked that donkey didn't have saddle sore before deciding we had done enough exercise for one day.
Still having to walk another fifteen minutes, we again had our comprehensive wait to see if the hostel was half as nice as it had been built up to be. Some of the hostels on the way had no roofs and were being rebuilt entirely, instantly taking our minds to the worst.
Having said that, the hostel genuinely rivalled our fist stay in La Paz to the best accommodation so far. Decorated walls, a comfortable bed, clean big bathroom and even a carpet helped, but the views it offered differentiated it from anywhere we had stayed before. With our room looking out over the lake and in the distance were snow-topped mountains.
Not only did we have one amazing view, the owner let us know there were inca ruins ten minutes away where mythological gods were supposed to have appeared in ancient tales, plus we could watch the sunset over Peru.
Wandering down to the ruins, we were under-whelmed by the one building that had been spoken about so went to the top of a hill to watch the sunset.
There are not too many views in our life that come close to the sunset, and the tranquility that came with it as everyone else appeared to have left the island only coming for a day trip or had found another viewing point. The sun gradually fell behind the hills in Peru but seemed if you blinked and it had set.
Even the food was surprisingly good as we got to view the lake from the restaurant. The island views are idyllic, combined with how nice the hostel was and bing in the sun again made it the perfect place to visit.
