Today we woke up in Durnstein, we walked into town which took a few minutes and when we arrived it was s beuatiful medieval village from the 14th Century. High above the town is the round of a castle where Richard the Lion Heart was held captive! We walked around the town for a while managed to buy some souvenirs and walked back to the boat, pretty cool today about 9 degrees. Once back on the boat we set sail for Melk, once we arrived we went to the Melk Abbey.
After lunch we travelled to Melk, Austria and went to the Melk Abbey, it was founded by the Benadicteen monks. The abbey is really more like a castle, pretty impressive if not a little ostentatious for monks. After a guided tour of the abbey we went into the church, the baroque architecture inside the church was overwhelming! Only 30 monks live there are it has 900 rooms. It was quite cold, so we found a quaint coffee shop and got some coffees and local cakes.
On the way back to the boat, they took us to a castle on top of a Clift, it was quite old and they entertained us with local music, it was a little disappointing, we would have preferred to look around the castle more, but by this stage it was getting late, so we returned to the boat.
During the night we passed through a number of licks, we are getting quite used to them now,the boat has a bow cam so we can watch the action from outside the window and on the tv screen, pretty amazing.
