Well this will be my final blog. I am home now and already missing where I was. The journey back was quite rough. Our bus ride back from Nha Trang took about 10 hours on the bumpy roads of Vietnam. I had to actually take motion sickness medicine. We were on a boat all day long the day before, rocking back and forth, so then a bumpy bus ride all day long called for aid.
I appreciate the interstate highway system so much more now. On the drive back, sometimes there wouldn't even be a bridge (under construction) and it took forever for our bus to cross. Just to make it more fun, our air conditioner broke and then we got stuck in traffic for hours. My leg really started bothering me when it got hot, but the girl in front of me had an awful case of the flu and she was simply miserable. We took turns fanning her, poor thing.
We got back just in time for our farewell banquet. Our lunch was awful but the banquet was so wonderful. It was great to have a good last meal. It was all traditional Vietnamese food and there was a ton of it. Just when we thought we couldn't eat anymore, they brought out a HUGE cake that was made especially for us. Our teacher gave the farewell speech about everything learned. He said if we didn't take anything else from the trip we at least learned a great deal about ourselves. He was totally right. I learned that I do love to travel and I wouldn't mind making a career out of it. I have changed my resume and will hopefully get the job I really want.
After the banquet, it was off to the airport. I bought a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue for super cheap at the duty free store. It was okay to take it with me on the 6 hour flight to Japan, but the Japanese security said I couldn't take it on the plane. Therefore, my friend and I had to go through immigration and customs in Tokyo and actually enter the country to check it as baggage. It was a hassle but we ran outside and took a picture and got our passports officially stamped. No one else, besides the two students that stayed behind in Japan, could say they actually entered Japan! The two students were from Japan and were staying for 3 weeks before school to be with their families.
Both flights back didn't seem as long (6 hours, then 12) but there were typhoons we had to fly by so they were pretty rough. Once we got onto American Airlines again we all missed the nice Asian flight attendants. All the American flight attendants were mean and ugly, sorry to be blunt, but it's true. I think that foreign aircraft carriers should be allowed to compete in the U.S. so the inefficient ones would go away and maybe they all would give good service like Southwest. I dunno, I just thought it was really rude when this flight attendant chewed out this Asian man for not putting his bag up and didn't even offer to help him find a spot or translate what she was saying.
By the time I got home I had no ankles left. It is two days since I got off the plane and they are still swollen! I didn't have problem on the way over, but I think the long bus ride before the flights did it. My leg was all infected too but its looking a little better today. Now it's back to the real world: bills to pay, papers to write and work this weekend. But things are still changing because I graduate next week and I'm looking for a job to start my career!
Just FYI, I've added all my pictures with captions and added all my missing blogs. I hope everyone has enjoyed my journey written down and I'm glad that it was a way for me to keep a journal. If you have somewhere you want to see, get out there and do it!
