02-12-2014 - Livingstone, Zambia
El grosso! Another day of travel! But it was not too bad. All we had to do was catch an 11:35 am flight from Nairobi to Livingstone, but Africa is huge!!! Our flight was 2 hours and 55 minutes and still, we are in the eastern central part the continent!
We are done! We are tired and seeking some peace and some down-time. Once we arrived in Livingstone - a lovely and clean little city, we realized this will be the place to do that!! And our hotel, The Royal Livingstone, is the perfect spot. The hotel staff greeted us in traditional dress, colorful green print gathered skirt and vest for the doorman. He escorted us in to the main reception area and invited us to sit on well-stuffed sofas while he did our paperwork for check-in. Attendants served us iced peach tea and gave us hand massages while we waited. Are we the King and Queen Bees or what??? But honestly, this is a royal place. Sunning decks, swimming pools and guest room terraces overlook the grand lawn lining the Zambezi River. High tea is served at 3 pm, and a painting of David Livingstone (correct spelling but commonly pronounced here and abroad, "Livingston") hangs in the grand reception area. (tee-hee!!) And . . . we have air conditioning in our room. We are in heaven.
We had a great dinner on the broad patio overlooking the river. Stan had a rich oxtail stew and I had crispy bream on polenta with sweet potato vine. I don't know which was better, the food or the amazing atmosphere.
Tomorrow, we can finally get some much needed exercise! We are told it is safe to walk the grounds. We were warned though to simply keep an eye out for zebra, giraffes and monkeys who live on the grounds. And, hurray! There is a gym on the property!
Otherwise, our big plans for tomorrow are to see Victoria Falls and maybe squeeze in another excursion--maybe.
