Night flight with Emirates to Dubai and on after a 3 hour wait to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. A long flight and we all felt shattered on arrival and then you still have the visa's to sort at the airport, 3 queues all for separate forms all long queues and then wait again....This time for the luggage, loads of people all getting it armed with trolleys ramming up to the conveyor. Theo and Gabe were by this point exhausted and just flaked out on the floor, it is so hot (sorry to anyone whose feeling cold back in the UK)! But no moaning and really patient, sometimes the boys amaze me....
We had arranged a taxi driver to pick us up thankfully and even though we were tired his greeting of "Hakuna Matata" made us all smile and it will now be the phrase of the trip and we loaded all our baggage into our blacked out A team taxi and into the madness of the town... Nightmare traffic but when you are looking at all the mad sights you see it soon flies past and about an hour drive later we arrived at Maua lodge for the first night while we get Monty some new wheels, put in the new alternator we brought out (yes we did get some funny looks at the X-ray machine!),charge the battery and ready for the off after a good sleep. I really appreciated the mattress and mosquito nets as I know tomorrow it's the the thinnest mattress in the tent and bruised hips the next day!

A delay in leaving as Monty's fridge battery is flat and needs charging, but lazed around charging our own batteries while Ben slogs it out with Monty's at the garage!
But finally with a few too many bags squeezed into Monty, we were off.... as it was later than anticipated we decided to head up the coast to a campsite Ben had been to before. The travellers lodge which is in Bagamoyo next to the beach. On the way we stopped off at a deserted beach and lots of shell hunting... Ben is obsessed almost with finding the perfect shells. But it has caused great amusement trying to get the hermit crabs out of their shells and trying to persuade them to move into our suggestions as we want theirs!!! It is possible but as I'm not sure it's totally humane I'm not telling you how. But we won....
Finally stopped at the camp after bargaining along the way for pineapples, passion fruits, avocados , mangoes and tomatoes. It is obviously big pineapple country as they are everywhere for sale and absolutely gorgeous.... Even better than waitrose
