Queenstown is smaller than i expected, which is better as you can just walk round town, and the bars and clubs get pretty crowded. Theres loadsa Bars and its a pretty cheap night out as drink deals are the rave around here. We havn't had enough time to check out every club but they do differ in good music from one to the next. We're staying at a Hostel which is at the top of a big hill, which is killer to walk up but you do get a phat view of the town. Since we were in Franz Josef Glacier we have bumped into the same group of Dutch peeps at everyplace we stay. Seems a bit stalkerish, but completely coincidental. I have found that you do bump in to the same face a month or two down the line quite often. So we pretty much spent most of the time hanging out with them in Queenstown which was cool.
The drive from Queenstown to Mildford Sounds takes about 5 hours and has got some stuning views. You can proper bomb it there as the roads are straight with the odd bendy rally style road along the edge of a hill. The only thing is that we're watching our fuel budget now so a steady 110 Kmh at 2.5 rpms is most economical we found. Go any quicker and well both have a go at each other as we both want to go fast but want to save the dollar, which is funny. I thought that Milford Sounds would be 'OAP central' but there was a good mix of peeps. It is a very trigger happy place with the camera. The Japs have got the nicest cameras and don't mind standing for a pose, oblivious to the world, for a good minute. The night before we went on a cruise round the sound i was showing photos to some friends. I used up the battery on my camera and pretty much most of Hows. Being a bit of a retard, i forgot to put them on charge. In the morning there was a slight panic but at the Quay they had a shop that sold the good old trusty disposibal cameras. The shots came out splendid. The cruise took about an hour and a half. There was a buffet continental breakfast on the boat that we took fall advantage of, as this was how i sold the whole idea of going to Milford Sounds to How. Well worth the 20 quid.
What type of a nut would think of attaching a bunch of elastic bands to his legs via a harness, build a 5x3m carriage with a glass floor, suspend it between a canyon and then dive into a 134m death pit, just for a laugh. Well that Nut knew how to have a good time! Bunjy Jumping is highly recommended by Ashley. How, Me andon of the Dutch girls called Maaike, went to do the Ben Nevis jump on Saturday. You get a lift on a rickety bus up a gravel road to the top of the canyon. Get your harness's on then get a open standup carriage to the suspended carriage via a wire. A reality TV show could be created just to get peoples reactions. There are some funny moments, girls crying, boy giving it the biggen then going very quiet, people developing stutters etc! When you stand on the ledge looking down it is pretty mental, different to Skydiving as you do fill the Vertigo and its up to you jump. How and Me were trying to stay pretty cool but got showed up Maaike. The worst bit is when you get winched back up beaucse your just suspended in a massive canyon by a bunch of rubber bands! and have time to contemplate the otherside of the coin.
Well i've done all the expensive activities now which was well worth it. Now its just back to the surf to work on the cutties and floaters. Flying to to Perth from Christchurch via Sydney on Wednesday which i canny wait for. Its like doing on another holiday! just back to back. Driving to Dunedin tonight to see some Penguins and seals and hopefully get a surf in!
