Took the bus from Hanoi, we changed busses in Ca Cai at 5am and got another bus to Sapa at 6am, arrived at Sappa at 7am. The shuttle bus that was supposed to take us to the Sapa Summit Hotel never pitched. This meant we walked all the way up the mountain to the Hotel. Obviously we were less than impressed. The hotel itself though was gorgeous with the best views. We received our itinerary and had the best buffet breakfast with fantastic views of the surrounding mountain range. It was a first cupa coffee for me in about 2-3yrs, they had condensed milk in the bottom of the cups giving it a smooth taste, was really nice.
We joined our local tribal guide, Sue with her baby strapped to her back at 9:30. The Cat Cat and Sin Chai surrounding villages were first on our list, we walked for about 8km down to a lovely waterfall. It was back to the Hotel for another gorgeous lunch. A 3 hr snooze was also in order.
Dinner was with 2 South African girls and with "Dutchies" Sylvia and Martyn. It was a la carte with about 18 different options, was lovely. It was however going to be an early night.
Great Breaky again. Did a bit of stretching and placed luggage in storage with Paulettes fancy locking contraption. With our "little" backpacks we started our trek at 10am. Walked along the mountain pass and was so weird to see so many tourists on the same pass. Lunch was at the Black H'mong restaurant. We deviated off the congested route and then onto the most scenic route towards our home stay where we arrived at 3pm. Down to the river many of us went and rode the rapids down natural slides. We were definitely out in wild nature.
French fries and chilly sauce was served at the house at 5pm and dinner was at 7pm, a lot of food, from spring roles to chicken. As per local custom rice wine was served and served again and again. BBQ's Grasshoppers/crickets were our desert, a first for me. It was also the first time I saw how a group of people could create a drinking game with a bug..there was this bug that flew around and seemed to land on random people...so the rules were whoever the bug lands on needs to drink. It worked until the point that the host came out caught the flying creature and killed it...there went the game!
So all that was left was to play pool which we did for the rest of the evening.
Breaky Pancakes, bananna and honey was at the order of the day. Said bye to the lovely couple from Brisbane and started our trek back. The most beautiful views and the magnificent waterfall.
Was a lot of up down, up-down walking and over large rocky terrain. Was worth it though. Had egg noodle soup for lunch. The shuttle picked us up from the restaurant. We were back at the summit hotel at 3pm.
Repacked our bags, had coffee and got our dinner. We were taken to the bus station where we were on the 6:15pm bus to Hanoi. Had our dinner on the bus. I had quite a bit of motion sickness this time round, not too sure why.
