Ok I know I'm late with this blog but it was the Belgium Beers fault!
We went to Brussels for a day trip via the train which is about an hr away. On our walk to the station there was an old car rally full of old old cars.
So at Brussels we caught a cab to the Horta House/ museum where the architect made as many things out of wood as possible. It opens at a funny time from 1400 to 1700 on a Sunday arvo! The funniest story was at lunch when my uncle tried speaking French when the waitress brought our food out and he said bonjour instead of Merci as she said enjoy!
We then got the tram back to the station and worked out the train system to go to "the grand place" which is a big square full of historic buildings, chocolate, beer, waffles, lace and did I mention chocolate! I got some chocolate coated strawberries Mmm. There was also we think a European handball game being played where there were 2 music bands and beer. It was like tennis but the racquets were their gloves and they threw it back and forwards over an 80 m distance. We then had icecream and went back hm.
When we arrived it was raining so we got a cab to the market square and the taxi driver had a great personality with his limited English ! We recommended a flammish place for dinner called de vlaamsche pot down a little alleyway. I had chicken Von en vaunt and beer hmm this is where it gets interesting! So my uncle and I were looking through the beer selection thinking it was very expensive as we thought it was a pint of beer was 12 euros so he ordered a beer as did I. But when the waiter came back it was a 750 ml bottle of beer the same as wine each! So Bill kept his but I returned mine and got a smaller one 500ml was the smallest and the it had an alcohol percentage of 9.5% a very interesting dinner! We we were leaving and going down the narrow steep stairs Bill whacked his head on the book ledge then when we go to pay Bill said room 35 instead of table.
Anyhow we made it back safe and sound and we watched the Olympics in our room!
