Sarah's Travels
Hi
I've finally managed to upload all my photos from my first month traveling.
Since my last update I've finished in Vietnam, had a quick stop in Cambodia and am now in Thailand.
My last stop in Vietnam was Saigon where I managed to cram in a couple of tours in the three days I was there. I visited the Cu Chi Tunnels which although most were destroyed by the Americans during the war, is still worth a visit. You can't go down the original tunnels partly as most were destroyed but also because they were built for the Cambodian people who are much smaller than us Westerners. I also took a day tour to the Mekong Delta where we sailed round the delta and stopped off in various villages to see them make traditional foods and clothes.
I then decided to be brave and take the bus from Saigon to Phnom Penh in Cambodia. It was supposed to be a seven hour journey including time to cross the border but it actually took us 12 hours including a broken down bus and a massive thunder storm that at times almost made the roads dangerous. The next day I went to visit the Genocide Museum and Killing Fields - a bit depressing some might think, but a must see for all tourists to get a better idea of the history of the country and how much it has suffered in the past. The Genocide Museum better known as Tuol Slend Security Prison 21 was a school before it was taken over by Pol Pot's security forces. You can still see the barbed wire they placed around some of the buildings that was used to stop prisoners committing suicide. To end the day with something nicer, I got taken by one of the guys from the guesthouse to a really great bar/restaurant where we got to lay in hammocks and watch the sunset over the river...a perfect way to end the day.
I then spent three days in Bangkok. I stayed in the well known backpacker area of Koh San Road. There isn't too much to do in Bangkok apart form maybe shop at one of the many markets but it was just a stop over before I left for Chiang Mai - which is where I am now! Yesterday I caught up with a friend I met in Hanoi and we went to see a Thai Boxing match.
Well I think thats all for now, tmrw I'm going back to Bangkok and then heading straight down to Ko Pha Ngan for the full moon party on the 13th. Hopefully I'll catch up more then.
Keep well
