Hi all ... or should I say Bula
Hope you are well
Yesterday we began our adventure in Fiji which has only been short so far but a WOW first impression.
Our adventure began very bumpily....literally. The flight from Auckland was very bumpy indeed and as usual started when the hot beverages were being served. (although Lee asures me it is nothing like flying to Jersey)
As if the flight could not get any worse...I was sandwiched between lee and a partner for HLB AV Audit Fiji (This I guess makes sense to lee's friends at work! Not a clue to me!) I had to restrain lee, as he wanted to ask him for a job!
After deciding to start our Fiji adventure early we can say that so far we feel like we have made the right decision. When we stepped onto the plane in auckland and the Fijian Stewardesses all have funky couloured shirts and flowers in their hair, is a good way to describe the introduction to Fiji.
When we arrived into Nadi we were greeted by the extreme heat and by lots of love friendly people all wanting to help us out! OK...so they were taxi touts but still, they were very friendly.
The fijian culture is very relaxed and laid back. So laid back in fact that it becomes very difficult to get anything sorted. We had previously booked our island hoping passes but needed to confirm them when we were here. So I phoned the office and the woman could not find our booking. GREAT! So she asked if I could fax over my reciept. Being sat at a computer, I asked her if I could possibly email it to her as it on screen in front of me. Her response "no, could you fax it to me as email just takes too long!" If fiji could be sumed up in one sentence...there it is!
We arrived in our FEEJEE Experince office where we were told that we were booked into a different resort than our friends for our free night accomodation, which was a little disheartening as we had looked forward to catching up with them after they were randomly on our flight, but not to be. Instead we were put in a taxi and off to Nomads Sky Lodge Hotel we went!
We turned down a small dirt track on the side of the street...instantly making us feel a little disheartened and a little on edge. We were pleasently suprised by the beautiful resort at the bottom of the road. The skylodge is very very nice. We are in dorms accomodations with 15 other people but it is no where near as bad as it sounds. The 'cottage' as it is called consists of being split into several different rooms with two or three beds in each. We are in effect, in our own twin room...just with no doors!
There are around 10 of these cottages spread throughout the grounds. One problem...no people! The total number of people in the resort at the moment would probaly only just fill our cottage. It is nice though because we are all spread out so in fact we have a 15 bed dorm with 4 people in. Cosy!
The lodge has very nice facilities and is more like a holiday resort in the carribean than a hostel. It is actually a 3star hotel in its own right. The best part is that it costs less than 8 pounds a night. Bonus. The pool is really nice and has plently of sunbeds around so we have spent the day there. There is a nice bar/restaurant....which serves curry! The place feels like it would be rude to not sit and drink cocktails all day...but we are on a budget so just one or two!.....but even better is the beer is only around a pound a bottle. So Lee is very happy.
Tomorrow we are off to start our Feejee expereience which should take between 4-6 days. Day one (tomorrow) involves a market, sandboarding, a fiji village visit, a beach and a BBQ all in one day! Sounds like a plan!
Will update when I can next but the computer here has no card reader so I cannot put on our pictures straight away...will try to soon!
Love and miss you all
Love Kirst and Lee
