Left a warm Durban area to a cold Drakensberg. Spent nights in lodges and backpackers and in campsites overnighting in the rooftop tent. 'the berg' is dry and brown and black in places (many) where the lands have been burnt for whatever reason. The drive on these roads have been scenic and quiet. 4 days of touring and visiting St Lucia and the Nature Reserves. Saw many hippos, crocodile, buck, big birds, giraffe, zebra and the bonus was a white rhino! Cool weather with rain for 1 night, and decided not to snorkel. Was our plan. St Lucia is a lovely little touristic town, pleasant and we especially enjoyed the river boat trip one evening. Cape Videl (a little further north on the coast) comes recommended.

We crossed over from Eastern Cape to Natal and there was quite a difference. From dry brown fields with millions of huts and animals there was green sugar plantations with far less huts (!) There was, however, field burning on the go and a lot of it. AND the roads were better, and the backpacker didn't have ANY fencing only a gate without a lock. We were greeted by those little monkeys, but a very old Rhodesian Ridgeback kept them at bay. A not-as-nice-back...

We left East London and headed up the coast towards an area of The Wild Coast that Bruce and his friend, Rob Boyd, had hiked some 4 years ago. So we arrived at Hole in the Wall at a RCI resort and got a campsite. It was rather chilly and built a fire to warm up and did our best to keep warm (braai fire ... apricot wine ...)
