1001 Degrees Of Latino Heat!!!
Hi Family. Salutations friends.
Dang!
Sorry for not writing. Man I dont even know where to start, I already forgot so much stuff... hmmmmmmmm
Some of you may be asking what the heck is the deal with Adrian hitchhiking to Romania? That was never part of his plans! And Hitchhiking! What?
When I was in Krakow Poland with Sylvia I was waiting on my bank card to arrive from back home. At that point I was surviving off of about 200 American dollars. The bank card was being sent to Sweden to Robbies address. At that point Robbie was in the Ukraine and I was in Poland. Upon first arrival Sylvia had informed me that I would only be able to stay at her place for two nights, as she lived with her parents and brother. I was happy for that and as I was hanging out with her in those two days we would talk alot and hang out alot. The more we talked the more interesting she became and vice versa.
Eventually when the 2 days came she let me know that I could stay a few more days or until I found another HCer to stay with. Sylvia knew my situation and knew I was hurting for money. I dont know what she told her parents and brother but two nights turned into another 3. Awesome!!!
During this period Sylvia was in contact with some Norwegian about a job. Sylvia is an ecrestrian...ha ha, thats so wrong. She rides horses. These people were making her jump through loops and that was pissing her off.
That just reminded me of some thing:
POLISH CONVERSATION: When Polish people talk normally to one another alot of times it sounds like they are arguing. They speak loud and just the sound of the words makes it seem as though people are ending there sentences in a huff. At times when Sylvia was talking to her mom in the living room I was convinced they were arguing about the American , but they were really just talking about what the weather or tea.
Finally it got to the point When Sylvia got frustrated with the Norwegians and she just asked me if I would want to go hitchhiking to the Black Sea. I didnt have anywhere else to go, had little money and Sylvia was growing on me a little.
I am leaving out so many details. I should have wrote sooner.
After some planning, buying a map and groceries we took a night train to the border of Poland Slovakia. We arrived early in the morning in some small town. Next step take a bus to the outskirts of the city to the road leading to the border. We did this, found a liquor store and posted up.
I was a little apprehensive about the idea but I was not letting Sylvia see that, shoot to her I must have seemed like He-Man. I was saying stuff like, "Dude, I hope someone trys to rob us. I have no money and nothing to lose I will drop bombs like Hiroshima... you dont even know me girl. Ive already killed some guy in France...wha dont smirk at me girl, the hells the matter with you WOMAN!". I was really a little nervous about the whole thing to be honest.
But we got our first ride. A slovak guy and two Polish women. They took us all the way across the border and nearly to the city that was our target destination. Kosice. We got dropped in some other city I cant recall and one thing that struck me off the bat was that Slovakia has such a bad rap. Eurotrip anyone? How about Hostel? The place is nothing like either of those movies and it is actually really nice.
In this city we had been dropped off on one side and we had to get to the outskirts on the other side...
HITCHHIKING 101:
When hitchhiking it is always important to hitchhike on the outskirts of the city on the road/s that are leading to your next destination. If one tries to hitchhike from the center of the city, well it would be best to find a bench and make oneself comfortable.
We took a bus and were riding around... at this point I realized how much of a bonus traveling with a female is. Sylvia was organized, she knew languages, she was able to multi-task, looking at the map, bus schedules, speaking to locals and patting me on the hand when I needed it. I was so USELESS!!!
So we got to the out skirts of the city and were waiting around for some time. A car that had just passed us
swung back around and offered us a ride a few kms in the direction we were heading. SWEET!!! We hopped in. The driver was a middle-aged woman and a little boy about Dominics age. The lady let us know that the only reason she swung around was because the little boy had asked her too. We only drove with them for about 10 minutes before we got dropped off again.
HITCH-HIKING 102: Patience is key. So are signs with your destination in large block letters. Its easy to get impatient watching car after car whizz by in 90 degree weather. During our whole 2 week trip the longest we waited for a ride was an hour and a half. We usually waited no more then 15 or 20 minutes. The shortest wait time was 2 minutes. Stay patient and carefree.
Once again were waiting on the roadside. The road was two lanes, surrounding us was farmland and a few trees. It was hot out so while we were waiting one of us would make food or just have a seat while the other held the sign and tried to flag down drivers. Eventually we got a driver to pull over. A young guy bumping electro music... IY IY IY IY IY IY IY IY IY IY "Sexy little boys eating gum" IY IY IY IY I Y IY. Yeah that ish. The guy was really cool though, I sat in the front seat next to him...
HITCH-HIKING 103: Girls should never hitch hike alone. EVER! Even two girls is dangerous. When getting picked up 99% of the time its a guy driving. Or a guy is influencing the female driver. Case and point: The little boy telling his mom to pick us up. For us we decided that I should ride front seat all time, for the most part we stuck to this but there were a couple of times when we didnt follow the rules and at one point it came back and bit us in the ass... Ill get to that later.
So the guy was young, spoke some english, watched NBA so I was digging the guy. He took us all the way to Kosice. The first day of hitch-hiking was a success. In Kosice we walked around for some time, found a hostel took showers and just relaxed.
Before we had left on our trip I had half jokingly told Sylvia that a bonus for both of us traveling together would be that we would be able to give one another massages at the end of the day... playing with fire, but temptation is a son of a gun. Back in Krakow there were a few times when we would be out at a bar and the conversation would be flirtatious. I would avoid it as much as possible maybe make one quick little joke but HC is not about finding people to hook up with. When we both decided that we would travel together I grew a little more apprehensive. Here is a girl that is attractive, intelligent, cool and all of that other baloney. Were going to be traveling for a couple of weeks staying in the same tent and rooms and aside from that we will be around each other 24/7.
GUYS ARENT DOGS WERE JUST REALISTIC: Girls always seem to think that guys are such dogs, pigs blah blah blah. The truth of the matter is that guys become such dogs because girls make us that way. In the past I never considered myself a dog/player/pig/pimp or any of that. I loved having girlfriends. But of course all of that changed when I saw someone I thought I knew do a complete 180. Every guy that I have met on this trip has had a similar story... us guys are to blame as well dont get me wrong. The difference is a women that is out for revenge is dangerous and on a whole different level then a guy... girls have revenge down like no other. Thats why me and most guys my age dont settle for one girl... anyone who does is shooting himself in the foot!
That was part of the problem facing me in Slovakia after that first night of hitchhiking. I could potentially start to like this girl and that is not a good thing. Its always best to keep the distance, give them a slice here and there but never ever give the whole cake. At the time I wanted a massage though, after hitchhiking all day in the heat I was sore and tired, plus I hadnt had a good massage in months. Hmmmmm I have the will of an oak. Unshakable. Strong. Unmoving. Nothing will happen...
The massage was good, as Sylvias hands worked into my back I felt the tension of 1 month of traveling getting worked out. I was doing this stuff the whole time, "ohhh", "ahhhh", " aiiiiii", "YES! YES! THATS IT...O...YEAHHHHH!!!". Getting ahead of myself maybe. ZING!!! The massage was good. Then it was my turn to give Sylvia her massage. I suck at massages... ha ha ha, I wish I was good though. When the massages were done we both just sat in the bed and began talking. The train had left the station at this point. The emergency break was not working and there was no stopping where this was heading. The tension was there. It had been building up for 5 days and was waiting to be unleashed. The more we talked the more it grew. Slowly I placed a hand on her knee. Later she began to rub my hand with her hand. The more we talked the more we began to stare into one another eyes. The longer I stared the more I hated myself..."Dont stare into the eyes man"... Im an oak. Im resilient. Strong. But damn those lips look so soft, and her eyes are so green...NO!!! Dont do it...
The next day we walked through Kosice. We visited an underground city fortifications that was build between the 12-14th centuries. As we walked from one part of town to another Sylvia did something that threw me a bit off guard. She held my hand. At first I was uncomfortable and I didnt want to hold her hand at all, but as we walked further it was actually quite nice...
