Denmark was only 50km away from Albany, so when we drove past Cosy Corner a campsite recommended to Rebecca by Sue and Tine we decided to stay there for the night. We were just getting our s*** together when Tina and her fella a scouser called Mike entered the site. They had got work on an asparagus farm and were staying around the area. To my surprise Mike was a really nice guy. I normally haven't got time for scousers due to my footballing allegiances but he was helpful, gave me 9-10 beers and fed me two home-made spicy burritos. I can't believe I am about to write this about a scouser but he was a top lad. He did nothing for the image of Liverpool though as he told us about his drug fuelled youth and robbing cars at the age of ten. But now he was a reformed character and loved being on the road with his missus. They had been travelling five years now, in a van just getting work when and where they could then moving on. They had been to Aus, New Zealand, England and other parts of Europe. We had a fun night drinking and sharing tales of travelling. It was nice to have some good company for once. Mike was an interesting guy as he told us about hunting deer and goats in New Zealand and living with gangsters in New Zealand. His stories were captivating. Our plan was to go Walpole the next day but as Mike and Tina were heading to more central Denmark the next day we decided to join them there. After a brief walk around Denmark city centre and tasting a pie from their famous award winning bakery (it was average at best) I went back to campsite to join Mike and Tina for some beers while Rebecca went to a local winery and a cheese factory. 38 beers later me and Mike were pretty wasted. It had been the same as the day before with good chat and beers and a few rounds of true and false. It was a good day and as I touched upon before it was good to have good company rather than just the German girl I was travelling with.
The next day I woke up surprisingly with no hangover, it must have been the late night burritos that sobered me up. We chilled for a bit with Tina and Mike in the morning and then bided farewell as we headed to the toffee factory on the outskirts of Denmark. The toff factory was a disappointment. I didn't expect a grand factory like in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory but I expected more than a little tiny shop, which just had a few tasters of different toffee's, cider and condiments. I thought I would learn how toffee was made and the whole process. Watching it go through but no luck there. We then raced to Walpole to go on the tree top walk. We wanted to get there for 2pm so we could go on the guided tour. This meant disappointingly I would miss out on Dinosaur World and to make matters worse we missed it for no reason as the guided tour was cancelled due to the bad weather. Still the sun had briefly come out so we decided to go up and walk the tree tops. It consisted of walking on a platform 40m above ground level in the tingle forest. I admit I wasn't the most comfortable up there so raced around as fast as I could and found sanctuary on the ground floor where I was a lot more stable. Once Ze German had finished it was time to go to our next destination - Pemberton
So until then stay safe and take care
