Well it has ben ages since I last wrote a blog. The South American tour has now ended and I am in La Paz on my own killing time before my flight to Miami at 6.20am tomorrow.
Since my last blog I have visited the Salt Flats which was really cool, but very cold. We stayed in a salt hotel and the next night we stayed in a desert shack ìn the middle of nowhere. It was rally cool we took 4x4s for the whole three days and went on some crazy roads (if you can call them that)
We then went to Potosi where we went down into the silver mines. Working conditions down there are really bad and some spend a month down there at a time. Around the mines there are statutes of the devil as they believe that when they are down there they are with the devil and so leave offerings for him.
We then went to Sucre. First day - amazing city, seemed very European and the locals clearly had money. We went out into some clubs in the evening and I got up to my old tricks again, the less said about that the better.
We woke up the next morning to find out that we were stuck in the hotel as a full on riot was happening outside. The university students were protesting and trying to force out the government. They were firing rockets at the police who in turn fired tear gas. Our hotel was in the middle of it and we got bombed with tear has. It just chockes you and your eyes stream. We eventually went out and then got caught in it again but this time the police would not let us back to our hotel and we ended up getting stuck in a laundrette whilst we collected our washing. We looked stupid walking through the riot with bags of laundry and had to sit in a bar until we could make a run for th hotel. There were burning tyres everywhere. I have some great videos I will put on Facebook. It was an experience to say the least.
The next day I woke up...I got gastro. Sick and diorrhea all day, we had to take a flight to La Paz in the evening and I could not leave the toilet. It was horrible. Got to the airport and the tour guide took me to the doctor who said I needed an injection in La Paz and possibly an IV drip.
Got on the plane (having spewed everywhere right at the steps to the aircraft) and all I wanted was a glass of ice cubes....I had two and felt so much better. Got to La Paz and went to bed. The tour had now finishd and all my group took flights home in the night,
It is now the morning and I feel ok, but need to get some food down me. Flight to Miami tomorrow, I leave here at 3am. Luckily I have booked The Hilton at Miami so going to chill round the pool when I get there before flying to San Fran the next day.
So that is it. South America finished. Had an amazing time and my group were awesome. Met loads from Australia so I am going to visit them next summer.
Bring on USA!
