Lazy start before we headed into Mt Barker where we made an unexpected discovery. It turns out Mt Barker's main street is also full of small old stone shops similar to Hahndorf. And there are heaps of opp shops which tended to have lots of good stuff and reasonably priced. J and I each got a couple leather jackets and C bought a jacket, a hat and a panda backpack. Amanda's main purchase was lace gloves and the new Captain America DVD which we all watched this afternoon.
Amanda and I headed back to Hahndorf tonight for dinner and a show. We ate at the German Inn which is a great old stone building with a fireplace. It was pumping with people and we had German beer to drink. A ordered pork knuckle and I had 3 wurst mix with sauerkraut. The atmosphere was fun and the food was nice (without being great). We decided to go for a walk to see if we could find somewhere a bit nicer for desert and we did at the Farm Barn café which also had a fine and was made of slabs of wood like an old barn. I had the chocolate mud and A had the gluten-free orange cake and we both had a glass of the warm mead which was strong and very yummy.
Then we headed to the Hahndorf Old Mill for the Absolutely 80's show with Brian Mannix (Uncanny Xmen), Dale Ryder (Boom Crash Opera) and Scott Carne (Kids in the Kitchen). It was basically the function room with about 200 punters. Most had obviously eated dinner there as well. The average age of the audience was 50. Some were dressed in 80's gear complete with frizzy pink hair. It was fun. A and I could sing along with the choruses of most of the songs. They played their own hits like "Everybody wants to work", "Onion Skin" and "Current Stand." I really enjoyed the BCO numbers. Mannix is just a classic old rock tragic complete with big hair, leather jacket and ridiculously skinny black jeans. Carne can really sing. The highlight of the act for me was the guitarist who played a nice Ibanez guitar and did not miss a beat all night. It was the guy from Wa Wa Nee.
