G'day mate! It's been a while since the last blog so I thought id give you the low down of what ive been up to since arriving in the tropical north of Queensland. Well, we got here about 2 and a half weeks ago. It just seems to have flown by. We stayed in our own apartment which was absolutely heaven! We had our own bathrooms, TV with loads of movie channels and a lush pool. Fantastic. Just what a backpacker dreams of after a 4 and a half month stint of being on the road! I couldn't believe how dirty I was from the desert when I arrived that I left red earth footprints on the carpets around the flat! Oh well. Im a backpacker through and through at the moment! So first of all, there were no kangaroos to spot and no vast amounts of dry land as it's pretty wet up here down under. In fact as Cairns are in a rainforest it was pretty wet and humid most the time. We did get out to see Kuranda, a little village in the rainforest. We went up on the longest skyrail in the world, which made me feel pretty travel sick after an hour and a half ride. Then hitched a ride with the old scenic railway on the way down, stopping at the Barron Falls. It looked pretty gorgeous!Another day, we decided to do the Uncle Brains day tour around the Falls of the the Atherton Tablelands. Everyone on our travels kept recommending this tour so we were quite curious to see what it was all about but it was the best day trip ive done on all my travels so far! It was hilarious fun and frolics singing and dancing on the bus for a full whole day. Swimming in the waterfalls and gorges. This guy, cousin Bob, (Uncle Brains retired now), took us through a rainforest and pointed out all the deadly spiders and spiky plants. Basically everything that will hurt you. Then we had a home cooked dinner on the tablelands (which served pudding just like my mums Sunday dinner pudding!) and then off to see platypuses. Although, we weren't lucky enough to see any! Shame, but it was funny just staring at the water for ages concentrating on not making a sound! So, we also decided to splash out on a trip to the gt Barrier Reef and see some coral. Yey. Except. I forgot how seasick I get and a 45minuate ride into the ocean wasn't good! I felt pretty rough, so by the time we got there I was in no mode to go snorkeling, or do the glass bottom boat ride or the island walk! But i did eventually swim out and see some coral, all of it looked pretty dead though from the coral bleaching. So that was a disappointment. But was such a pretty island neverthe less. Luckily the ride back was better, but took me a while to recover! In between our fun days we just chilled out by the pool at the apartment or at the seafront the have this cool free swimming pool they call the lagoon, its just paradise! We also found out the Peter Andre and Katie Price were going to be filming a bit of they're new TV series at Petes bros restaurant in town, so we went for a wander and came across some paparazzi trying to get a good look! It was funny to see!Well, im in Port Douglas now which is absolutely heaven and its Australia day! Yippe! Aussie, aussie, aussie, Oi Oi Oi! We headed north after leaving Cairns a few days ago after Jess (my friend from Uni) arriving in the early hours last week. We went with a tour company up to Cape Tribulation stopping at a few lookouts on the way. We went to Daintree Rainforest which is the oldest rainforest in the world, and that was pretty cool. As we came across a wild Cassowary. It's a rare bird that looks like an emu and there are only about 500 of them. So we were so lucky to see it. It was a baby one and you have to be careful of them as they can kill people with there sharp claws and ripping you open. The other thing we have noticed in Oz is the amount of things you can die from and how many "someone died here" stories that we have heard. It makes us laugh, how many times we have cheated death! We finally got to Cape Trib where we were literally staying in the middle of nowhere in a rainforest. But it was so beautiful. The beach was empty and was amazing to think that Captain Cook arrived there all those years ago! It's the only place in the world that two world heritage centres meet. The rainforest and the Gt Barrier Reef. It's stunning. But pretty wet. We went to look at the beach and came back looking like drowned rats, when suddenly the heavens opened above us! Oh well, we had to just keep reminding ourselves that we were in the rainforest after all!The next day, we booked to go Jungle Surfing. And my oh my, was that an experience. You get hooked onto ropes hanging 12metres plus above the floor and zoom across. It was pretty scary and fun all at the same time! The final one we had to go upside down. That was scary. I didn't know if I was coming or going when I got off that rope, but a must for anyone wanting to have a little fun in the forest! Definitely a way to see it from a different perspective! We then hopped back on the bus to Port Douglas stopping at an exotic fruits ice cream place and tasted some rather nice ice cream before going form some croc spotting! And, oh yes, another way to die! Amazingly we spotted a baby one and a mother croc on her nest. She was only 2 and half meters long! But still looked like she'd eat you pretty quickly. I also found out that the way they eat you is by rolling you over until you stop kicking and then you drown and then they bury you at the bottom of the river so that you rot. That way they can bite chunks of you easily. Nice! Anyhow, we carried on regardless and had a nice day, knowing that we were still alive! We didn't plan on staying at Port Douglas for two days, but changed our minds when we got here and realized how pretty it is. It's a posh place for the rich and famous so we fancied abit of that for a while! So we set sail, once again heading to the Gt Barrier reef to go snorkeling. We heard that this is the best place to do it. So I braved it again. This time, I was actually sick, ten mins before stopping. Typical. But when I dived straight into the water, I felt better. It was my first dive since Thailand so I was pretty nervous. But it was so awesome down there that it was worth every second of it. I saw the most amazing fish ever. They were so brightly coloured and pretty. The instructor picked up a mushroom anemone and it felt all sticky. I saw Nemos cousin down there too. I think he was lost, just like Nemo. I did two dives which were incredible. One the last dive of the day, I went out and snorkeled with Jess and Jeremy and he spotted a shark, which imp glad to say I didn't!So here I am, at the end of this latest adventure. Just been chilling out today and hanging by the pool. It is Australia day after all, so im taking it easy. Heading out to celebrate it fully later when we get back to Cairns, so might be feeling worse for where tomorrow.Right then you little rippers, that me done. I'll right again soon. Until then, see y'later as the Aussies say!Love Adelex xx
