July 25 - Seattle. We left the Olympic Peninsula this morning and headed to Seattle. We parked at a light rail station a little way outside of downtown so as not to have to drive and park in the city. First stop was Chinatown, which isn't as nice as San Fran's but we did have a traditional dim sum lunch at the Jade Garden. Traditional as in, the kids were disappointed that there was no lo mein on the menu, and traditional as in, I'm not really sure what a couple of the things we got were. But it was really good (except for one slightly traumatic bite of aforementioned uncertain food item).
After lunch we hopped back on the light rail and spent most of the afternoon at Pike Place. We could have done a lot of damage there if we hadn't been sightseeing on foot - "remember, if we buy it, we have to carry it." As it was, we made it out with nothing more than a cinnamon roll and cookie bigger than the kids' heads, and some Turkish Delight and coffees. Not too bad.
Next was the obligatory Monorail and Space Needle—we made the right decision and held off on that till late in the day, so we saw both sunset and full moonrise from the Needle. Pretty cool. Grabbed a late dinner and then boondocked in a Walmart parking lot - this was an option we've known about for a while but the first time we've done it. I am happy to report we survived, and we are now headed east on 90 on the first leg of a 2-day drive toward Yellowstone.
