We arrived into Las vegas airport at around 3pm maybe earlier I forget, you feel as though your not in a baggage claim area but a casino, that’s right they have a casino in the airport - so the moment your off the plane they want you to gamble and loose your money lol or maybe win who knows. We got a shuttle from the airport to our hostel. We got to see many other hotels, all that were amazing, huge and extravagant. Then we reach our hotel, well words cannot describe…basically a small down and out motel, that’s comparing it to the other hotels we have just seen. The room was lovely, especially for $10 each a night. Also the food they offer was extremely cheap. We had to eat breakfast and dinner at the hotel as they didn’t have a kitchen for us to eat at.
Our first full day in vegas was to go and look for a car to buy, we walked for hours finding car lots, think we were doomed from the beginning - ‘the cheapest car we sell at is 2000 +’ ok lets carry on, we walked for ages until reaching a place that seemed ok.
This time the cheapest car that would get us around the states would coast us…wait for it…$3600 and that didn’t even include insurance or registry!!!
So we made our way back to the hostel in hope that a car would come available on Craig list (internet site) $1500 was the going price for many, so we went and got the money for a Honda car. Next problem…couldn’t get insurance, apparently they don’t do it for 2 months. Next option…rental??? No chance, now for 4-5 weeks this would cost us over $2000 and that didn’t include a $15-27 charge everyday for being under 25!! Which we think is bloody ridiculous, charging someone whose under 25 that much, when they allow people to drive from the age of 16.
Now all this stress caused me to have a migraine…I might add the last time these bad boys were present was at high school!!! Yet I didn’t have a numb left hand and face so that was strange. Adam did his thing and found some cheap flights. So now we have an extra 4 or so days in vegas before we fly our to Seattle. We would leave earlier but its too pricey to fly at the weekendL bloody typical. Our journey is basically the following;
Seattle, Dallas, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago an New York.
After knowing we were going to be in Vegas for some time we decided that we needed to see the grand canyon, well at least one part of it. So we went for a walk down the strip and booked with a company that was offering a trip to the south rim for only $80 when a bloke previous offered us the same trip for $130 each. Obviously we took the cheaper option. Once sorted we carried on walking around the strip. Taking in the atmosphere as it was packed with people, who I might add were drinking booze in these huge jug type things, some even in the shape of the Eiffel tower and some really cool ones that were guitars!!! You could get 99c margaritas or buy one get one free beers. We being on a budget couldn’t afford. Yet Adam did get a 6 pack for only 8 dollars. Think it may have been less.
On the Friday of being in Vegas we went to the Madame Taussauds, this was fun, the wax figures looked so life like, I didn’t want to go near Johnny deppe as I swear he was going to jump out at me, that’s how real I thought it was. Sad I know.
On Saturday we went to the grand canyon, we were picked up at 6.30am in a white coach, from our pick up point we got taken to the depot place for our tickets and some breakfast. Now we were pretty Hungry and wanted a continental breakfast, as advertised.
You guessed it, what a load of balls, did we heck get what it said, basically there continental breakfast means one tiny Danish and a small fruit juice…no cereals, no toast, bagels, teas etc. this is what the man told us. LIERS!!!!!! We got told we wouldn’t need to buy anything, again a lie this is why they don’t give you much food cause then you buy some, because your starving!!!!
After 3-4 hours on the bus we got to our first stop, an IMAX screening of the canyon, nope we didn’t bother wasting the money, we just had our lunch. Which was free and again this consisted of a sandwich with turkey - disgusting! Chips (crisps‘) and a drink.
After this lunch we made our way to our first view point. It was breath taking, the views were just spectacular - the height was incredible. I would not like to fall from these canyons that’s for sure. It was freezing. Imagine Vegas being 25 degrees, now minus that fully. that’s how cold it was, plus windy. Some parts of the canyon didn’t have railings, so imagine if the wind caught you and you fell. Not pretty!! We got to see another location after this one, it was at a resort, the back entrance to it was the canyon, now how nice would that be to wake up with every morning. Just magical. (Hey we also got to see Arizona too as that’s where the canyons are.) All in all we were out from 5.30am and we didn’t get back till at least 10pm. Once sleeping at around midnight, or more like lack of sleep we stayed in the hotel room for the majority of the next day - we were shattered. I actually had bags under my eyes and that’s never happened. Well not that I can recall. Even mum reckoned I looked like I was stoned or on drugs…cheers for that one mother, I really appreciated it, umm not! Lol.
Next day was our last day in Vegas so we spent the most of it on the strip, we looked in all the shopping malls, window shopping! We saw the fountain show outside the ballargio (however spelt) it was spectacular - the water goes up so so so so so high. Once finished on the strip we headed back for a last night at the Wild Wild west. Next stop Seattle.
