We arrived into Fiji airport at 8.50pm were greeted by tour ladies with shell necklaces as a welcome into their country. A bus picked us up and took us to Horizon. Thank goodness we only had to stay the night as there was nothing to do there. We got told to be in reception at 7am the next day to get the bus to Mango Bay. 9am came and no sign of a bus. We had to get the local bus at 11.40am to get to NadI bay resort to then get the coral sun bus to Mango bay. After a 2.5hr journey we arrived there. A definite secluded place, not what we expected either, so we changed our time there to 3 days. We enjoyed the time there, its just that as it’s a resort you didn’t pay till you left meaning everything you bought went on a tab - worrying we’d spend all our money for America we cut this place short. As you can see from the photos the place is beautiful the sea goes out for miles and you don’t need to swim until at least 45mins out. Great for snorkelling we saw some tiny bright blue fish and many more. Some girl said she saw a snake and according to Henri the Fijian entertainer said they are bad. Adam thought he saw an octopus. We made some coconut jewellery which was fun and we managed to go and see a school - the kids we saw were completely crazy, especially when you got a photo of them, it was a case of where were you they just hid you. And they kept swearing at you without realising - as per the photos. But they were lovely and it was good for us to see how they were taught the sort of environment they worked in etc.
We left Mango bay and went to NadI Bay resort 5 nights. This place was ok but nothing other than the pool to keep you occupied. They did have a cinema in the evening, where we watched the curious case of Benjamin Button with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett - a great film!! You have to see it. We went into NadI town - do not go in there full of con men! We got told to go into one shop for a kava ceremony, then they gave us a necklace for a welcoming present. Then they asked us to look around their shop after feeding us with information about the village etc. They tried selling their stuff at an extortionate amount and when they realised we couldn’t buy anything they turned around and said “ok give us $20 for the necklaces” ummm excuse me what happened to them being a gift?? So we gave those back, no way worth that amount, then we just bought a coconut bowl for the sake of $5 Adam gave $6 and then the man wouldn’t give change and said “say $1 for the kava” so all in all nothing was free, bloody scam artists!!!! Word of warning to all, don’t go into the towns in Fiji.
We only had 3 days left Tuesday we went to the Robinson Crusoe island which was a lot of fun and very entertaining. Got to go snorkelling - then later on realised all sorts of sharks bode in that sea, so if anyone saw a shark who knows if it was a veggie one, lol cant believe we weren’t warned!! This information was told to us after seeing a cut up bull shark that had been caught by some Fijians!! It was horrible. Before all this however we got to got on a nature trail, learn about coconuts and how to get the creams etc. Gratted coconut is just bliss - word to all buy one and grate it, yum yum. Fresh coconut cream is well nice. After lunch the crew put on a show which was great they did fire dancing too. We left Robinson at 4.30pm and got back to the resort at 6pm. We did nothing until sleep. The next two days we just wait for our flight to LA. It is now 5.40pm and it has been raining hard since 3.40pm!!! Pray they’ll be some sun tomorrow before we leave at 10.50pm getting into LA at 1.15pm the same day we leave, meaning we have two Thursdays lol.
Speak to you all in America yippee!!!
