Buenos Diaz. we arrived in Argentina from a gruelling flight in which we went back in time living the same day twice!!!! the only problem with this was that it was actually sams birthday and being the longest birthday ever she wanted twice the amount of presents to which i did not comply being on my travellers budget. Money was fast running out for us both in Argentina but worse so for myself, so we tried our hardest to see the sights of Buenos Aires with a shared opinion of free activities being far more welcome than any costly ones. we took in the main sights like the huge democracy monument you see in the picture above (we spent most of our nights sat beneath the monument talking and reading watching the world go by). We saw the parliment house which translates in english as the "pink house" take that america who needs a white one!. Argentina is in a bit of a state of political upheavel at the moment and there was many demostrations taking place outside the parliment houses while we were there. we saw the famouse balcony from which Evita did her thing and then we saw where she was buried at the cemetary in the posh recoleta area of B.A. we took a tour around the famous old teatro (theatre) and we dinned on some seriously good steak, wine and basically eat out mostly at all you can eat bbq type resteraunts. We went to the Caminito (name of a tango dance) which is an area in La Boca were we watched a tango show and picked up some good souviners. When we arrived in B.A we immediatley felt the huge change in climate as Argentina was starting to come into summertime and we paid for it with the huge blood sucking mosquitos that we thought we had seen the last of. B.A would have to be my favourite city that we visited, with Beijing and Saigon running it very close. The best moment though for me was seeing the fabulous Boca Juniors play at La Bombonera in La Boca which is a very run down working class area of B.A. we stood in the popularis section of the ground with all the hardcore fans and our tickeds cost a whopping 14 pesos which is just over 2 pounds! we were right next to the band who sand all the way through the game and basically didnt pay attention to what was going on, on the pitch (boca dre 1-1 with Estudiantes) the atmosphere was awesome and very intimediating. We went to the game with two other people we had met at our hostel one was English and the other French. We felt happy to make it out alive and considering everyone was standing on handrails and not on the actual terrace im shocked no one did actually get really hurt! We left for a tour out of busy B.A and took a very luxuriess bus to the city of Mendoza were our bad luck started to happen my bag was stolen from an internet cafe which contained ipod, camera and travel journal amoung some other pretty important travel essentials, we reported it to the police and the insurance company and fingers crossed we can claim the money back but it really did annoy us and made us feel quite unsafe in Argentina. We battled on though and went on a winnery tour the next day visiting two winnerys and a distilery, then stopping off for the most amazing, huge lunch complete with all the wine you could drink, we returned home a little drunk to say the least! We then moved on to a small town called Salta which was home to some beautifull architecture from the colonial period and we shopped till we dropped as prices were low and clothes were aplenty in the town. Unfortunatley with the culmination of the bag theft and our homsickness and the lack of money we made the decision that night that we would head back to B.A and then home to the U.K shelving our other South American plans for a latter date. If our hearts were not in it anymore there wasnt much point in going on we thought. We headed back to B.A and had to wait for a couple of days before we could get our flight rearanged so we spent most of our remaining money on gifts for people at home and ourselves!! we got back into London Heathrow in the small hours of the morning from our flight via Madrid. It was nice to be home again and to see the familys we have missed so much but i assure you we will return and not just to complete this trip but to add even more destinations to our travel list
