Hello people,
Since the last entry we've been travelling down the east coast of New South Wales and have now reached Sydney.
First stop from Byron Bay was one day in Coffs Harbour. This is a very pretty place, with some incredible views. Mountains in the background, golden beaches, small islands dotted throughout the crystal blue ocean. Linds thought it was similar to the Scottish west coast highlands - but a lot, lot warmer. We had the nicest fish & chips - you could tell the fish had been caught that day.
Stayed in a really friendly hostel. We went to a 'drink all you can punch night' - like being back at Uni again. Played lots of drinking games, like flipcup & 21. We both did pretty well with these (Thanks to all the practice in Mason Bar several years ago). Very scary that we were nearly 10 years older than most people there! Went to a club later (in flip-flops & shorts) & got ID'd - which made Linds feel a bit better.
The other memorable thing about Coffs Harbour was walking up the jetty & seeing giant turtles happily swimming about below us - very cool.
Next stop was Port Macquarie, which was initially a convict settlement. We had 2 days here. Another beautiful place with great views where the river meets the ocean. Again had some delicious seafood.
We then travelled to Long Jetty where we spent a few days with Linds' rellies, Derry & Beverley. We got completely spoiled & looked after very well. It was really good to slow down for a few days after all of the non-stop sight-seeing. It's hard work being on a big holiday you know!
After recharghing our batteries, we arrived into Sydney on Thursday. It was 30 degrees in the sunshine when we arrived but the weather has been 'terrible' today - only 19 degrees and OVERCAST!!. Don't know how we've coped! We have made the most of our time since getting here - Have been around Circular Quay, taking in the Bridge & Opera House. Walked through Darling Harbour, The Rocks area, the botanical gardens & Hyde Park. Sydney still has a magical feel to it, like we remember from being here 6 years ago.
We have lots of photos and are planning to put them up on here when we get to Shell Harbour next week. Best wishes to you all back home.
We're off to relax with a schooner or 2 of Tooheys New.
