I had the best sleep! Had a nice sleep in until 9am!! (Yes I know, at home on a Sunday 9am is NOT a sleep in! But when on holidays for me it is!)
My host Andrea taught me about Ubers, sort of like a taxi but cheaper. I downloaded the app and you pay with paypal. For some reason it wouldn't accept my paypal account so Andrea let me use hers! Oh my gosh, this lady is so sweet! She said I could use it to get home too, and then I'll just pay her back. Taxi between Stockyards and home last night was $43 but Uber this morning was $22 so it's a fair difference. Must buy her some choccies!!!
I made it to Stockyards just in time for the 11.30am cattle drive where they close the main street and walk the longhorn cows down....those things are flippin huge and mean looking, but very slow plodding along and not scary.
Stockyards done, so jumped on a bus to downtown ("city"). The information lady said there was "heaps" to do...but it's just a few blocks and I covered it in an hour. Nothing like the "city" back home!!
Stopped at Starbucks mainly for some free WiFi but also an ice caffeine fix - it is sooo humid!! When she asked what size I just said "Supersize me!! I need it!!". I'm not sure if she felt sorry for me or if I looked hot and haggered, but she said "This one is on me just for you!". Aww how nice! Again...very different from back home!!
Nothing else much going on downtown, so I jumped on another bus to go check out the botanic gardens. There's not really anything else in Fortworth I could find that was of interest to me. The botanic gardens was quite nice, but aside from some fish and turtles in the lake, it was nothing too special. The most exciting part was squirrel spotting! They're so cute! I saw a few scampering around.
Waited for ages for the bus back to downtown, had no idea what time it was due, if at all being a Sunday arvo, and could have done without the added anxiety of thunder and lightening!
By the time we got back to downtown it was sprinkling a little but was much nicer than the mugginess of the morning.
Another bus back to Stockyards. Wasn't that an interesting 20 min ride! The driver said he loved my accent and how did my husband let me go overseas!! He asked me all about Aus and if there's crocs in the streets and people like Ivan Milat wandering around! He was very friendly and I enjoyed the chat, however I declined his offer to be e-friends!!
I treated myself to a birthday dinner at Cattlemen's Steakhouse where I ordered chicken! Who does that!? It was ok. Just ok.
Filled in a little time and got my country on at the White Elephant Saloon. The band playing was really good.
8pm I did a walking ghost tour of stockyards which was interesting but more history than ghosts. When it finished I went back to the White Elephant to hear more of the band and use their WiFi. Asked for a lemon, lime, bitters which I have all the time at home, and she didn't know what it was, so I ordered a coke instead and she gave it to me for free! Second free drink of the day!!
Ordered another uber home and it was a young girl. She apologised straight up that she was nervous as I was her first trip!! She was sweet and we chatted the whole half hour trip. Got home around 11.30pm. All in all a decent day!
