Up early again for brekky "camping" style out at the van with the food kitty. Basic cereal & fruit, it's all you need.
We hit the road for an hour & half drive to Lynchburg to go to the Jack Daniels Distillery. I don't drink the stuff, but it was still interesting. We had a guided tour around. Normally you get a free sample at the end, but since it was "Dry Sunday" we got lemonade instead. Haha, suited me fine!
We wandered to check out the little town of Lynchburg. All the souvineer shops packed with JD items. One of the stores had a promotion that you spend over $10 you get a free shot glass. 3 of our girls bought stuff, so she gave us free shot glasses for the whole group. So nice.
We had kitty lunch at the park nearby. Sangas with ham & cheese and some salads & fruit.
We then headed for Memphis which was about a 5 hour drive with a break.
As we neared our hotel, JD was warning us that this will be the worst place we stay in, cramped dorm with little space, no wifi & the occassional cockroach. Next thing we're pulling into a massive hotel & when we got inside the rooms are so lush!!!! JD is so cheeky...he had us all fooled! I'm bunking with Lissy again. A double bed each which are soooo comfy, massive desk, there's even a small safe & a microwave!! Complete opposite of last night!
Anyway, we basically just dropped off our bags & then walked into town, about 4 mins walk. Straight to an awesome cafe for dinner as it was already after 7. Then we just wandered the main strip. On weekends they actually close the street to traffic, so it's just like a huge mall. And they have little carts that sell alcohol in plastic cups and you can wander along drinking or even take those drinks into other bars. Live music everywhere, it was really going off, for a Sunday night. We even went to the Coyote Ugly bar.
I did notice that it's the land of funky hair & BIG earrings.
We called it a night and walked back around midnight.
So excited for Graceland tomorrow, Elvis' house & we're also going to the studios where he started his career.
Damn, this bed is amazing, stoked we're staying here for 2 nights.
Later,
Tracey
