I was up at 3am!!!! Woah!! We had breaky in JD's room and were on the road to the Grand Canyon by 4am. He took us to an amazing view point where we watched the sun rise and took loads of photos. It was terrific. From there we headed off on our hikes at 6.30am. From the visitors centre we had to catch a free shuttle bus up to the starting point. Sophie & John went for the massive 6-8 hour one and the rest of us went the easier 2-4 hour one - just the first half, with Chris venturing on to the second half. Going down the trail was awesome!! It took only 45 mins to get down. We stopped at half way point (Cedar Ridge) for 10 mins before Chris went on to do the second half and the girls turned back. Obviously it takes longer to go uphill, so while the fit young girls were relaxing in the sun I gave myself a headstart on the way up!! I think they started about 5 mins after and sure enough eventually Olivia and Vicki powered past me! I wasn't too worried coz I knew Becky was still behind me. I'm quite chuffed that I made it back up in only 55 mins, even though it near killed me!! I was stuffed and hot by the time I reached the top. The last little incline almost beat me...and when I caught a glimpse of the hut at the top I could have cried with relief!! We caught the other shuttle bus around to the village market, but all that was there was a general store, souvineer store and a cafe. We had our packed sangas that we made last night. JD had said he would pick us up when we were ready so we called him and he came around midday. We went back to the hotel to drop off our backpacks then walked over the road to Wendy's for icecream. We were meeting for dinner at 6pm and there was nothing else to do in the small town so we retured to our rooms around 2pm. I washed off the orange sand of the Grand Canyon that I brought back on me, then had a lovely 2 hr nap. We met at 6pm in JD's room to go over our plans for the next 2 days in Vegas, then headed to dinner at the Mexican place across the road. I had quisidella (pardon my spelling!) and a refreshing Pina Colada. (Don't sing that song...John was singing it over dinner and it's still stuck in my head!). After dinner we walked a bit further down the road to the bowling alley for some fun bowling. Another tour group was in town so JD had organised for them to meet us there. There's only 3 of them so we had 2 lanes. I did pretty good in the first game, scoring 77 and coming 2nd out of the 6 in our lane, but after that it was all downhill and in the 2nd game I came 2nd last with 55...but hey...I beat JD on 44!! WooHoo!! We wandered back to the hotel around 11.30pm. What a day...seeing the sun rise over the canyon tgen hiking into it...AMAZING!! Later, Tracey
