It's all very wild & rural up there, the main road turns into a narrow track that winds up through the mountains, and you get some great views. At the Daintree River the road just runs straight down into the water! There's a weird cable-ferry that goes back & forth every couple of minutes.
So we stayed there overnight, saw some more of the stunning beaches & rainforest trails, then came back down to Cairns last night. We're about to head inland to the Atherton Tablelands to see some of the waterfalls and "crater lakes" out there, then across to the Outback and the Northern Territory, via the Undara Lava Tubes (natural tunnels through red volcanic rock), and across the desert to Darwin.
So I expect we'll be away from civilisation for a while, it's 1-2 thousand K's I think. YES we have lots of water, food, petrol, oil, blah blah blah.
Speak to you as soon as I can!
