So last week was fun. We played a lot of games and stuff throughout the week. Plus it snowed - huge welcome addition to the landscape. It began snowing while we were inside watching a movie. Once it was done a few of us went outside for a late night snowball fight and some makeshift sledding.
The next day we had another snowball fight - this time with the entire fire unit. That night a bunch of us (about 20 people) went to the Nuggets vs. Clippers game downtown. This was a ton of fun and very cheap.
The next day we had a short meeting then a corps wide game festival. We had trivia, tug of war, Rock Paper Scissors, egg toss and other fun stuff. Fire Unit won, no big surprise there. After the games we had another meeting, which was basically paperwork, then reported to find out our team assignments.
Team assignments was a fun time but it started off badly. We were all a little tense and anxious by the time we got to the meeting. When we got there our unit leader told us weren't going to find out our teams for a few days because they were still waiting to find out the results of some drug tests. At first we thought she was joking but she kept on talking about other things for awhile until most of us believed her. And man did she have a good poker face. Eventually she told us we were going to find them out then and we were all relieved and angry all at the same time.
The whole game surrounding the team reveal was complicated and misleading from the beginning. First we had pictures taped to our backs and we had to find people with the same picture and group up (all without talking). Then they told us there was a fire drill and the instructions were on our dorm doors so we all sprinted to the dorm. All that was on our doors was a quote from a song (we all had different ones) and directions to the tennis courts. There we wanders around until we figured out that we had to find other people with quotes to the same song (I had Fast Car by Tracy Chapman). At that point they told us those groups were our teams but I didn't trust them after they had already lied to us. Then we went to a room to find clues as to who and where our team leader was. We had a bag of monster cans so we knew we had CA.
Once we found CA she told us our project. We are going to Freeport, TX (about an hour south of Houston on the Gulf Coast). There we will be working (and living) at a boys and girls club as well as working again bird observatory and a mission putting together food for homeless children.
The town sounds small but is close to a beach so that's all I need. Can't wait to get started.
