Natalia K - Those top two cards look like they would actually be fun and ralely simple to stitch. Hmmm, I've been looking for a good cross-stitching project even bought a pattern online a while ago that's just way too complicated to start right now cause I'll never finish.

WELCOME HOME!

Hi Alyssa,
Your time has gone by in a hurry. Probably because you have been busy there, and we have been equally busy here. It seems like there are so many things going on right now. I am trying to get things lined up for Bible School which will be June 23-27 this year. We have a meeting on Monday night.
We had a wonderful rain yesterday-about and inch and a third. It was needed badly, as the ground had gotten so hard. Rod finished his planting on Tuesday, so the rain will be good for the crops.
I heard you went hiking with flip-flops. That must have been hard on your feet. I remember wearing high heels when we went to the top of a mountain in Austria when grandpa was in the service. I didn't know where we were going that day, and that's where we ended. Needless to say, I was hearing a lot of comments from the natives about the American in high heels!! Most of it was in German, but I understood enough to get the drift. However, we didn't hike, we rode a cable car to the top.
I'm sure we won't be at your graduation. I wish we could be, but airline tickets and hotels are just out of line now and especially for such a short trip. I guess we will be "dog sitting" during that time. Not just one dog, but two!! Becky Shouts was to keep Dana's dog while they went to Branson and now she can't keep him all week, so Dana asked if I would keep him a couple days. After I said "yes", your dad reminded me we would have Greta too. Greta does NOT like Miken-that was quite obvious on Memorial Day, so I don't know what will happen. I may have to send her with grandpa during the day and stay at your folks with her at night.
Well, I better get going here. I have made a scrape book of all of your letters and pictures. Thanks for keeping us posted. Love, Grandma B

Hi Alyssa,
Sounds like you had another busy week. Your dad said you would be up in the Himalyas some place this weekend. Hope everything went OK.
I will have family in on Memorial Day for a hamburger fry. (whoever can come.) Bri is working, I guess, and Heather and Eric aren't coming until next week. Jay was in church today. Paulette brought him and they stayed for lunch. That always makes Jay happy. We plan to cut off the ends of two pews, so there will be a place for his wheel chair.
We had our day at Ridge School on Wednesday, and it went so well. It was a beautiful day. We had the fourths grades from Maple River. Ruth Lemmon and Mrs. Howieson's classes and one other teacher. There were about 40 children, and we took them through what a day in country school was like. Two of the little girls even came with long dresses, bonnets and high top shoes. Fun!
Grandpa had his cataract surgery on Thursday and that went well. Now when he gets his lens changed, his vision should be pretty good.
Hope your friend is feeling better. I worried about a parasite when you were sick, as that is a common occurence from bad water, and it often takes months to get completely cured. We will keep her in our prayers.
Joe Obermeyer is planning to go into seminary at Dubuque if he is accepted. I know it will be a real challenge for him, but he is so eager to do this, so hope the Presbytery doesn't block his efforts.
I better close for now. Take care and hope you will be back in the US soon. Love, Grandpa and Grandma B

Hello Alyssa - I love looking at your photos and reading about your experiences. We miss you and think of you often. I think Boe misses you alot! We will see you in a few weeks -- I sure hope that you don't think that you will be resting once you get home since YOUR graduation is right around the corner. Take care - and continue to have fun enjoying all of your adventures. This really is a once in a life time trip!

Hi Alyssa,
It looks like you were in the "Land Of Monkeys" the last two weeks. It must seem strange to have them running wild all over.
I enjoyed all your pictures, but think you should have by-passed the swimming in the river. It looked pretty muddy, and I'm sure you found that out. Did anyone else get sick?
We have had some dry weather for a change. It is quite windy today, so doesn't feel as warm as they say it is.
Yesterday I helped the Community Club plant trees and flowers along the highway in town and out by Syngenta where Les always has flowers. I couldn't stay until they got done, as I had to be at church to help with Russ Garlick's memorial service. It was really a large one. We served over 160 people including the kitchen help. There were so many lovely flowers at the front of the chruch. They paid to have Arlyn Lloyd fly up from Texas to do the service, as he had done Russ's wife's service 9 years ago. Bev was gone anyway, so it all worked out well, and Arlyn did a good job.
Skye was alone in church today, as your mom and Dad were in Windom. Your Mom had to moderate a meeting there. I guess they are in the process of getting a new pastor too.
Your dad plowed our garden on Saturday, but I said it was too windy to stand out there and plant today. However, next week will be a busy one too, so maybe I will regret not having done it today.
Thanks again for keeping us all up to date. Love, Grandma B

Hi Alyssa,
I hadn't heard about the bombings yet, so guess it's good I got your message first. Grandpa had surgery on his face this morning for another squamous cell cancer. He hasn't had one like that for a long time. They did about a two inch or more incisions, so it took about an hour for the entire proceedure. They told me to come in too, so I watched him do the operation. He is supposed to rest for two days, but I don't think that will happen, as he already is at the office. Since we left at nine AM, I haven't heard much news.
I think it's a good idea that you don't venture into that area. We have heard so much about the earthquake in china and the cyclone in what was formerly Burma. Your dad said you weren't aware of that. I wondered how close you were to the earthquake.
Glad you are feeling better. I hope if you have a reoccurence, you will use the perscription medicine.
It is a very nice day today, and is supposed to be dry for a few days now. Rod went to New Market with Cindy, as he wants to let the ground he worked yesterday at Jim's get a little dryer.
Take care and be careful. Love, Grandma B
Time With Friends
Greetings from the Salem Senior Center! We have enjoyed reading your weekly entries and viewing your pictures very much. So good to hear you are staying safe and not taking undo risks in dangerous areas. Our numbers have dwindled down a bit as Blanca moved into another facility and Antonio hasn't been back. Deanna is doing a good job. We all miss you and thank you for keeping us in the loop. Bruce and his daughter are traveling in the Holy Land for 3 weeks. Take care, Evelyn, Ted, Marie, Liz, Bruce, Ruth & Edna

Hello again!
Sorry about that Alyssa.....I must have hit a few wrong buttons and my message posted before I was finished and it posted twice....oops! Anyway, just a few quick updates to share with you. Trevin started soccer and had his first game last week. They won 4-2 and it was a really fun game to watch. He has a game in Northfield tomorrow. That should be the farthest we will have to drive for a game. He is also going to be in the "Music Man" production at MSU. The tryouts were last Saturday and he was one of 8 boys who made the cut. Kaylyn didn't try out because of her soccer schedule. His play practices don't start until the end of June and the productions are at the end of July. It should be a really fun show.
I hope you are feeling better. Your pictures and blogs are awesome. I love to be able to view and read about your journey. I would love to send something to you if you need anything. Please let me know.
I can't wait to see your video with the monkeys. I will definitely have to show that to Kaylyn....she loves monkeys.
Uncle Darren says "hi!"
Love you!

Hi Alyssa!
You should feel priviledged right now......you are the first one I am sending a message to on my NEW laptop computer. Darren and the kids surprised me this morning with it. I have been asking for one for quite awhile with my excuse being that it will be so much easier to write my books from a laptop. I can cuddle up in a chair and get comfy and write away. Right now I am sitting on the livingroom floor and watching "Evan Almighty." I don't think I will get in the book writing mode tonight but I had to try it out nonetheless.

Hi, Alyssa!
It has been so much fun keeping up with your travels through your blog and pictures! I visited with your mom a little today in church and she mentioned that you had not been feeling well when you last called home. Hope that passes quickly for you! The school year is winding down here and the boys are ready for summer to begin! My baby went to prom last weekend! UGH! Does that mean I'm getting older, too? The last few weeks of school seem to be a flurry of music concerts, track meets, field trips, Relay for LIfe, etc. I'm sure the time will go fast! Tanner gets confirmed on June 8th! Dan has been busy with work, but the rains have slowed everything down for the farmers -- some are getting kind of crabby! I'm just trying to keep my head above water and make sure everyone is where they are supposed to be on the right day! I'm sending a hug your way -- know you're in my thoughts and prayers!
Love, Ruth

Hi Alyssa,
Talked to your dad in church and he said you have"Montezuma's Revenge." I hope you get over that in a hurry. If it continues, you better get some attention IMMEDIATELY before it devlops into something worse. Other than that, it sounds like your week has been quite interesting.
We went to Famous Dave's last night with the Schwarz clan. Cindy is sick with Strep throat and a filled up head. She and Rod have been coughing for two weeks now, I think. We had to wait about an hour, but the food was good.
It started raining here yesterday around noon. Rod finally got in the field at Grandma Schere's, but yesterday the planted plugged up when he got in a wet spot, so that was the end of field work. Now, with the rain, it will probably be several more days.
Bev did get called for the church at Shakopee and will be candidating there sometime in June, so I guess everything is working out for her, as well. Rick is being transferred to MPLS, so that will be good, as they have to live in Shakopee.
I guess I don't have any other news now, so TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Love, Grandma B
