That night I booked a bargain room in a 4* hotel with laura in bangkok. We left first thing the next day, I didn't even have time to eat my breakfast and ended up eating my omelette on the bus. Our "6 hour" journey to bangkok had started and after several stops we arrived at the Cambodia-Thailand border where the queueing began, 2 and a half hours later we were successfully on Thai soil with our enthusiasm at an all time low. Jumping at the opportunity to buy an ice cream we were shocked to find our next mode of transport was a pick up truck..thankfully ladies got to sit inside and we felt smug when the fat woman with 3 suitcases for 2 people couldn't fit in between us. 5 minutes later we were dumped at a food stop and after another omelette we were crammed into a tiny minibus and forbidden from opening the windows. The driver told us no stops, no pee pee..Feeling like cattle we spent the next few hours chatting to two south enders who were really funny and helped the time go by. Luckily the driver stopped twice for petrol so we didn't starve or pee ourselves. We hit bangkok justy in time for some of its famous traffic and eventually after 12hours of travel we came to our destination. Our mission now was to get to the hotel..luckily laura has more of a knack for public transport than I do and got us there with relative ease. We were a sight to behold in the posh hotel foyer and I almost exploded with excitement when the porter took my heavy rucksack and even more when I saw the room. Soo chuffed with the room we couldn't bring ourselves to leave and the next day we took the skytrain to the main shopping centre of Bangkok. With only a minor inconvenience of me losing my ticket we arrived before the shops even opened but once they did we got stuck in. There was an indoor market and we happily hunted for bargains and ruthlessly haggled. In the end we were really pleased with our buys and had neglected proper food, unless a giant ice cream sundae counts :/ We found an awesome Japanese restaurant where for less than £2 you could buy a steak with veg on a hot plate and cook it yourself..delicious! The next day was a sort of lazy day, we slept in and spent most of the day making the most of the hotel facilities I.e. Gym, hot tub and sauna. We topped it off with a meal in their restaurant which was nice although I did choke on an unexpected chili seed at one point. Wanting some fruit I asked for a fruit salad with banana since they must have it for the banana split..apparently unable to give me a banana with my fruit salad I opted for the less healthy option of a banana fritter just to prove that despite them saying "I can not do for you" they clearly did have bananas in the kitchen. Regardless the fritter was delicious. Now today I had to check out and laura went her separate way and I'm currently on my millionth bus, not getting anywhere anytime soon, heading to the full moon island of koh phangan! Up to date..yaaaay!
