After completing a ski season in Meribel I found myself with two choices: settle down and finally get on with the business of London living, or find the places I have always dreamed about and mooned over pictures of in magazines. I chose the latter option.

Once this important decision had been made, however, there was the tricky matter of where to go. Unable to choose between the noodle-ish delights of Asia or the salsa-sounding fun of South America, my travelling partner and I flipped a coin. It landed on Asia.

So here we are, me with my my (tiny) bag and him with a much more hefty travelling case, setting off for... Guatemala. I still don't really know how that happened, but let's hope the coin was misled.

The total sum of our plans are to jet over to Guatemala, go to a language school in Antigua for two weeks... and fly out of Rio six months later. Some would call this unprepared; I prefer 'adventurous'.

Let's see how it goes, then, shall we?
