Today we left The Hague and caught two trains to our second destination in Brussels, Belgium. One of the two most important places in regards to the EU, Brussels also is well known for its chocolate, waffles, and beer. While I have yet to try the beer, since I'm not much of a beer drinker, I did try a Belgian waffle and a wonderful Belgian cappuccino.
Today was mostly a travel day this morning followed by a free afternoon to explore La Grande Plaza, which is full of beautifully detailed architecture. However, in order to get there we had to pass through this shopping district that had masses of people all over the place. The only thing I can compare it to is Times Square in New York City. There were tons of people from many different ethnicities speaking multiple languages. A bit overwhelming at first but fascinating to watch how people interacted.
We didn't spend any time with our Brazilian buddies today since we were on slightly different schedules, but tomorrow we all are going to meet the Council of the European Union and have a meeting with the European Commission. All on the 4th of July but at least we got to see fireworks as we took off on June 30th since the Braves won their game.
There was actually a parade of sorts at La Grande Plaza, but since it didn't start till 9pm, we decided not to stay for the whole thing. I got some video and pictures of it but be forewarned people sometimes crossed the street whenever they saw a break or opportunity to switch sides, so, there are some randoms included.
Well, it's about midnight here. So until tomorrow.
